A first-of-its-kind trial in the UK suggests mental health treatment could be vital in reducing hospital admissions and time spent in hospital for people with severe diabetes. Consultants at Barts Health NHS Trust and East London Foundation Trust discovered that the likelihood of being admitted to hospital with recurrent diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) could be greatly reduced by mental health interventions. Recently qualified physicians can attend a conference aimed exclusively at those in the early stage of their careers next month. The event – Early-career Physicians and Investigators Conference (EPIC) – will be held on Wednesday, September 28, between 5pm and 9pm, as well as on Thursday, September 29, from 8.30am to 4pm.
