1-5 Year Fours11-12 June 2022 Bridge Park and Kohimarama played host to 30 teams looking to qualify for this season's 1-5 Year Fours championship. Competitive camaraderie was evident as play got underway, each team striving to progress through the rounds. It's Sunday, it's the semi-finals and each team is brimming with talented players. In the first semi-final; Viliami Fifita, Paul Neazor, Gloria Akaruru and Kelly Darwin from Auckland Bowling Club played off against Howick's Mike Dickie, Eddie Jones, Graeme Thompson and Bruce Fenton. A great, well-fought match with Auckland Bowling Club taking the win, 15-13. In the second semi-final, it's the other Howick side; Linda Fenton, David Weir, Shelley McCabe and Greg Dowdell battled it out to win over New Lynn's Freddy Te Whare, Valeece Simeon, Hokimate Barton and Hemoata Brown, 14-10. The FinalThe last two teams left standing will certainly make an interesting Final. Will the in-form players from both sides combine well enough to take that trophy and be crowned champions? Semi-final 1; Sitiveni Tikoisuva from Blockhouse Bay meets Steve Fisher from Royal Oak. Semi-final 2; Zoran Bartulovich from Mt Albert competes against Steve Campbell from Pt Chevalier. Saturday is going to be a great day for 1-5 Year bowlers, so get along to Remuera to support the players and your club. Best of luck to all players.
From our clubsA win for Selwyn College Alumni Remuera Bowls Sapientia et probitate – with wisdom and probity Selwyn College Alumni was the winning team of the College Day tournament at Remuera Bowling Club on Sunday 12 June. Pauline Campbell, Eileen Badham, Robyn Crankshaw and John Ross not only looked great in Selwyn athletic gear but also played great...with wisdom and probity perhaps? Second place went to St Cuthbert's; Margaret Dickinson, Chris Staples, Jane Field and Sue Curran, kitted out by manager Sue Ward. This year, teams competing were from New Plymouth Boys, Manawatu College, Kings College, Saint Kentigern, St Cuthbert’s, Selwyn College, Dilworth College, Avondale College, Auckland Grammar School and a team of international alumni. Cancelled twice and rescheduled once, College Day was last played in 2019 with Avondale College the winning side.
