1-5 Year Fours

11-12 June 2022

Bridge Park and Kohimarama played host to 30 teams looking to qualify for this season's 1-5 Year Fours championship. Competitive camaraderie was evident as play got underway, each team striving to progress through the rounds.

It's Sunday, it's the semi-finals and each team is brimming with talented players. In the first semi-final; Viliami Fifita, Paul Neazor, Gloria Akaruru and Kelly Darwin from Auckland Bowling Club played off against Howick's Mike Dickie, Eddie Jones, Graeme Thompson and Bruce Fenton.  A great, well-fought match with Auckland Bowling Club taking the win, 15-13.

In the second semi-final, it's the other Howick side; Linda Fenton, David Weir, Shelley McCabe and Greg Dowdell battled it out to win over New Lynn's Freddy Te Whare, Valeece Simeon, Hokimate Barton and Hemoata Brown, 14-10.

The Final

The last two teams left standing will certainly make an interesting Final.  Will the in-form players from both sides combine well enough to take that trophy and be crowned champions?  Only one way to find out!  Get along to Remuera Bowls on Saturday, 18 June.  The game starts at 3.30pm.

Best of luck Howick and Auckland Bowling Club.

Sapientia et probitate – with wisdom and probity

Selwyn College Alumni was the winning team of the College Day tournament at Remuera Bowling Club on Sunday 12 June. Pauline Campbell, Eileen Badham, Robyn Crankshaw and John Ross not only looked great in Selwyn athletic gear but also played great...with wisdom and probity perhaps?

Second place went to St Cuthbert's; Margaret Dickinson, Chris Staples, Jane Field and Sue Curran, kitted out by manager Sue Ward.

This year, teams competing were from New Plymouth Boys, Manawatu College, Kings College, Saint Kentigern, St Cuthbert’s, Selwyn College, Dilworth College, Avondale College, Auckland Grammar School and a team of international alumni.

Cancelled twice and rescheduled once, College Day was last played in 2019 with Avondale College the winning side.

Selwyn's winning team: Pauline Campbell, Eileen Badham, Robyn Crankshaw and John Ross
