Message from the General Manager

Tēnā koe – hello.

This issue we direct you to the new spoken recordings of the oath and affirmation in te reo Māori. In addition, the Department of Internal Affairs has a new Minister, Hon Barbara Edmonds. Until there is a new Choice video, please continue playing the current version during ceremonies.

To all of you who have been evacuated, who are doing the hard yards where you live, and who are now dealing with the aftermath of the flooding in Auckland and then Cyclone Gabrielle – kia kaha to you. And to those of you who have rallied in support of others, thank you.

Kia pai tō rā (Have a good day)
Julia

Oath and Affirmation: Spoken te reo Māori recordings now available

We let you know about the new versions of the oath and affirmation on 12 September 2022 and later on 2 November 2022, we encouraged councils to whakatairangahia te oati rauranga i te reo Māori for those people that would prefer to take their oath in te reo Māori.

What's new: Spoken recordings now available

To assist councils with the correct pronunciation of te reo Māori, spoken recordings of the oath and affirmation are now available at www.govt.nz/browse/passports-citizenship-and-identity/nz-citizenship/how-to-apply-for-nz-citizenship/citizenship-ceremonies/. You can find the two recordings under the heading "During the ceremony".

The Public Sector Intranet also includes a link to the recordings at www.psi.govt.nz/home/guidance/guidance-for-citizenship-ceremonies/.
