#29 Meee Moments
We thought we would change the focus of these newsletters to be more about Meee, Meee being all of us. So, here is our November dose of 'Meee Moments' for you to reflect on as we head into Autumn and Winter to inspire you on your journey of growth. The above picture/quote seems very apt for this time of year...just because we see things a certain way it doesn't mean that is the way things are!
Be More Bilbo
As you know I (Sid) sadly lost Bilbo in September and he's left a very large Springer Spaniel shaped hole in my life. But, and it's a really good 'but', I am so very grateful that his wonderful spirit, sense of adventure and kindness stays with me every day. So much so that I'm writing a new workshop called 'Be More Bilbo'. It'll be an online course that explores the world of kindness, gratitude, appreciation and how we can all get more of this from our lives. "Say not in grief he is no more, but live in thankfulness that he was." Thomas Lynch.
Moments
A moment is a very brief period of time. In our lives we have a boundless amount of moments. How can we seize opportunity in all of our moments? Join in and say yes to new opportunities, take action and take small steps if necessary. Reflect on your opportunities, acknowledge what you have achieved and celebrate. Our brains love excitement and celebration and our reward system will go looking for more celebration, spurring you on to more opportunities.
Joy in mess and chaos
This week I (Sid) had the children over for the weekend and after a few hours of playing, the living floor was covered in toys. In some eyes a mess, in some eyes chaos. To me it was pure joy, the hours of wonder that had taken place. Stories made up, characters acted out and in one instance, a teddy bear life saved by a very junior doctor. Of course we can't live all the time in mess and chaos but we can enjoy those wonderful moments of time.
Making a Difference
One of our team was recently recognised as a 'Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) champion' in recognition of a fundraising event they organised. We believe it is important to spend time making a difference for others, to support those less fortunate than ourselves. When you help others, it gives you energy and fulfilment, a sense of achievement and pride. What one thing could you do today to make a difference for someone? It could be as simple as a smile which we encourage in our article 'Kindness is Key'.
Smile to the Barista
Would you like to feel good at the end of the day? The reciprocity principle is one of the basic laws of social psychology where in many social situations we pay back what we received from others. Human beings have a deep rooted desire to help those who help us. Use this principle, start doing those small things and start this ripple effect. Simon Sinek sums this up really well in this 'Little Things' clip.
I am...
Apparently "I am" is the shortest complete sentence in the English language. Well here at Meee we want you to take this shortest complete sentence and use it to acknowledge all your amazing unique gifts. Are you a brilliant friend, are you funny, are you caring? You could be sporty, creative, tidy, organised or musical. What we all are is amazing, every single one of us and so hold your head up high and be the amazing people that you are.
World Mental Health Day
The theme of World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2021 was 'Mental Health in an Unequal World'. Whilst raising the profile of mental health is extremely important, it is something we should focus on everyday. Please take a look at the Resources section on our website.
So, as you head out into November 'Be More Bilbo' and see everything as an opportunity to find the fun and joy!
