Keep up-to-date with what's been going on at Highgate Hill House School! Headteacher updateHello all, I can hardly believe that January has already come to an end, with several new faces (both pupils and staff), this month has been incredibly busy but thankfully full of smiles. It's been so lovely to see the children come back refreshed from the Christmas holidays, and to see new friendships being made on their return. Children have had some fantastic opportunities to carry out some of their learning off-site in recent weeks: namely an enrichment trip to Dartmoor Zoo; walking in Cardinham Woods; scaling heights at clip and climb in Exeter and even a trip to Westward Ho. You'll find a few photos of our recent antics below. Also, I'd just like to remind all of our new parents and carers about our closed Facebook group 'HHHS Family', which is a great way of getting to know each other and asking for tips/advice. It's an honest, open platform which staff are not a part of, so please do request to join the group, and once approved the other members will be very pleased to welcome you! Thank you all once again for your commitment to our wonderful school. Warm wishes, Gina Wagland Headteacher Local post-16 Open DaysBoth Duchy College (two campuses in Cornwall) and Bicton College (one campus in Devon) are holding a number of Open Day and Taster Day events in the February and Summer half term holidays, which are a great way for year 9, 10 and 11 pupils to 'have a go' at a variety of post-16 courses. They also hold some 'family fun days' which can be a very gentle first step towards Chair updateHello everyone, Hope you are all settling into the Spring term and keeping well and also warm in these cold winter days. There are some signs out there that spring is next on the agenda. Similarly, there are some signs that we are getting through this challenging and difficult coronavirus period, with the number of cases of the Omicron variant receding. I personally have always found that reading a good book helps me get through the winter. I hope that as a school community of staff, parents and carers we are encouraging our children to find pleasure in reading, whatever they enjoy, both at school and at home, because whatever they choose to do later in life, reading is a lifelong habit that will serve them well! A good general knowledge quiz is also always a lot of fun for me and if you are stuck for something to do inside at the moment, I would heartily recommend a quiz for children and adults alike, as in my experience a bit of general knowledge quite often comes in useful too! Kind regards, Dr Julie Smith Chair of the Board Pathalogical Demand AvoidancePDA is a widely debated topic amongst SEN circles, particularly how and where it sits on the autism spectrum.
