Dear Brookes Westshore families and friends,

It has been another wonderful week here at Brookes. Our Grade 4/5 and MYP1 students had a blast on their year-end trips. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and great memories made. We are so proud of how well everyone represented our school.

We would also like to congratulate all students who took part in the Track & Field meet this season. They showed great effort, sportsmanship, and school spirit. A big thank you to Mr. T for all of his time, energy, and dedication to support our team.

Next Tuesday, we are excited to welcome parents to the Grade 4/5 Science Fair. Students have been putting in a lot of effort preparing, and we can’t wait to see their hard work come together.

Wishing everyone a lovely start to June!

With gratitude,

Dr. Rui Li

Principal

MYP5 Science

MYP 5 students recently participated in a hands-on chemical reactions lab, rotating through five stations to observe a variety of reaction types. Students investigated single replacement and double replacement reactions while recording observations such as colour changes, precipitate formation, and gas production. They also performed a hydrogen gas "pop test" to identify reaction products. Through these activities, students developed their skills in scientific observation, data collection, and balancing chemical equations while gaining a deeper understanding of how chemical reactions can be identified and classified. This series of labs served as one of the final summative assessments for the year, allowing students to demonstrate all the lab skills they have worked so hard to build over the duration of the course. Well done MYP 5!

Camp Thunderbird Trip

Our Grade 4/5 and MYP2 students recently enjoyed unforgettable experiences at Camp Thunderbird, taking full advantage of an incredible setting in nature to build community, challenge themselves, and celebrate the end of the year.

Our students participated in fantastic activities filled with outdoor exploration, cooperative games, and meaningful team building activities. Our MYP2 students extended their experience into an overnight adventure, marking an exciting milestone as many took part in their first overnight school trip!

Students immersed themselves in a wide range of activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, archery, and rock climbing, along with campfire games in the evening. Across both trips, students especially enjoyed swimming, jumping off the dock, and observing local wildlife, including sightings of eagles. These experiences offered valuable opportunities to connect with nature, strengthen friendships, and build confidence.

We are grateful to offer these annual trips, which continue to be a meaningful and memorable way to close the school year.

Camp Imadene

Our MYP 1 students also enjoyed an incredible first-time experience at Camp Imadene, a beautiful lakeside setting that provided the perfect backdrop for a day full of adventure, connection, and outdoor learning.

The day began with a series of fun and engaging group games that helped students build energy, teamwork, and community. From there, students moved into an exciting rotation of activities including turbo karts and outdoor laser tag, both of which quickly became highlights of the day. Students also had the opportunity to take part in paddle sports such as canoeing and paddleboarding, further immersing themselves in the natural surroundings of the lake.

One of the most popular features of the day was the outdoor laser tag experience, along with free swim time that included large inflatable water structures featuring a giant slide and climbing wall. These activities were a major hit and provided plenty of laughter, challenge, and memorable moments.

As a new destination for our program this year, Camp Imadene proved to be a fantastic addition. The combination of beautiful scenery, well-organized activities, and enthusiastic student participation made for a highly successful and enjoyable trip. We are excited to announce that we will be returning again in September!

Last Friday’s Fun Friday brought our courtyard to life with a vibrant Dance Off in the gorgeous sunshine! With music filling the air, our students showcased some truly impressive moves, cheering one another on and celebrating each performance. It was wonderful to see such creativity and confidence on display, as well as the genuine joy that comes from shared experiences. Moments like these help strengthen our sense of community, fostering connection, encouragement, and a spirit of fun that we’re so proud to nurture in our school.
