Legend has it the Rabbit was proud—arrogant even—of its speed. He was neighbours with Ox and always made fun of how slow Ox was. One day, the Jade Emperor said the zodiac order would be decided by the order in which the animals arrived at his party. Rabbit set off at daybreak. But when he got there, no other animals were in sight. Thinking that he would obviously be first, he went off to the side and napped. However, when he woke up, three other animals had already arrived. One of them was the Ox he had always looked down upon. -- Source: Chinese New Year Net Bowls 3Five OpenRound 1 & 2 On Tuesday evening, 24 January, it was day one of Bowls 3Five Open. 36 sides drawn into four sections - two sections of 10 & two of eight are based at Epsom Bowls and Auckland Bowling Club for the duration of the tournament. The two sets, five ends, two rounds, two bowl-mixed Triples per night is a quick-paced format that works particularly well when the start time is 6pm! Add some competitive banter & it is a fun event not to be missed! -- Photos courtesy Steve King, Rocky Nook Bowls Convenor role updateEarly 2023 is proving to be a time of transition, with the adoption of BowlsHub Aotearoa and a change in our Tournament Convenor role. Bowls Auckland understands the importance of this role, and we have developed a plan which continues to deliver high-quality tournaments and support bowlers & clubs through to the end of our 2022-23 programme. Integral to the plan is to assign a Tournament Director for each event who will officiate delivering the technical aspects of an event. We are very fortunate to have some high-quality people available to call upon and provide us with options to cover the multiple events in our busy playing schedule. With that in mind, we are so pleased to welcome Weng Lim to the team. Weng is well-known to many of you. With a bowls CV that boasts; a Level 2 umpire, a Development Coach, Bowls NZ & World Bowls umpiring experience, and a former member of the Operations Committee. Weng's first events as Tournament Director will be the Bowls 3Five Open series and Auckland Men’s and Women’s Triples in February. We look forward to supporting Weng and delivering awesome events for everyone to enjoy. Weng LIm is pictured with fellow umpire, Pune Paretoa at the Jarden Open 2-4-2 Mixed Pairs.
