Join our Foreshore Advisory CommitteeFrankston City Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from the community for membership to the Foreshore Advisory Committee. The volunteer committee advises Council on strategic planning decisions guiding the management of Frankston and Seaford foreshore reserves. This is a unique opportunity to become actively involved in management of a highly significant area of coastal reserve and implementation of Frankston’s Coastal and Marine Management Plan. Annual hard waste collectionCouncil’s annual hard waste collection service will begin on 29 April through to June 7. Please leave your hard waste on your nature strip – collection will begin from 6am Monday, during your collection week. You can place up to 2 cubic metres of hard waste on your nature strip no earlier than the Saturday (2 days) before your collection week commences. If you have queries regarding waste, please call Customer Service on 1300 322 322. Ballam Park play space construction – stage twoMuch loved for its basketball and scooter facilities as well as the swings, flying fox, slides, waterplay and plenty of BBQs, picnic spots and sports facilities, there’s still more to come at Ballam Park. Work has just kicked off on a new play area for children aged from three to 10 years. It will feature sway bridge with overhead ropes, basket swing, balance beams, cubby house, climbing rocks and junior slide. It’s funded by Council via a low interest Victorian Government loan. Frankston Arts Centre upgradeThe forecourt at the front of Frankston Arts Centre will be undergoing some works in 2025 to improve pedestrian access and to introduce a fresh new look. The first steps of this exciting redevelopment are to remove the overhead power poles and wires in front of the building on Davey Street, which is planned to take place on Sunday, 19 May. Think Local Month wraps up!Frankston City Council's first Think Local Month was a huge success! Running throughout March, the month long campaign aimed to encourage the community, businesses and workers to think local first when it comes to buying, booking or using trades and services or buying goods. The month involved a launch night, 22 business workshops which saw 160 local business owners attend, giving away 100 $1000 grants, two local giveaways, activating 10 shopping strips with local musicians and a small business expo with 46 exhibitors and almost 140 attendees. Throughout the campaign we also provided exposure to small businesses across our municipality. Since 2021, more than 200 businesses have used the program to help their business get ahead and stay on track. Hundreds of bin fires occur annually in Australia due to improper battery disposal. To avoid these dangers, always use designated battery recycling drop-off points such as those found via B-Cycle or Recyclemate. Ensuring batteries are safely recycled helps protect waste facility workers and equipment, and prevents fires, keeping our community and environment safe. TAC L2P Learner Driver Mentor ProgramAre you a fully licensed driver over 21 years old and interested in road safety? We are looking for enthusiastic people who can commit 1 - 2 hours a week to help a Learner driver to get their licence. The TAC L2P Program is a statewide program that helps young Learner drivers who don’t have access to a supervising driver or a vehicle and help them complete the 120 hours of driving experience they’ll need before taking their licence test. A driver's licence opens up new opportunities for education and employment. As a volunteer mentor you’ll contribute to your community by helping a young person take their next steps toward independence. Council hopes to speak with potential investors and small businesses at the event who are eager to expand, relocate or start their business in a progressive location and help them learn more about Frankston City, the place to live, work, play and invest. Seaford Road shared user pathCouncil is improving pedestrian and bike rider safety by constructing a new shared user path (SUP) along Seaford Road and adding a pedestrian refuge near RF Miles Reserve. The new path will provide a safe and continuous link along Seaford Road, from Elsie Avenue to the Nepean Highway and the pedestrian refuge we will also improve access to the nearby Kananook Creek walking trail and RF Miles Reserve and play space by providing a safe crossing point. The Dandenong Road East SUP was also recently completed, connecting to paths at Cricklewood Avenue and Fletcher Road and providing a safe continuous link to Frankston Station. Both projects are funded by the Victorian Government. Meals on Wheels calls for volunteersOur vital Meals on Wheels service is currently seeking volunteers to help in the kitchen with meal preparation, packing and clean up, as well as volunteer drivers to deliver meals. There are a variety of shifts suitable for anyone that wants to be part of a team that is dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives. Road upgradesCouncil is improving road safety for drivers and pedestrians at McCormicks Road, Carrum Downs, at the intersections with Astall Street and St Johns Wood. Works should be complete by mid to late April and will include two pedestrian refuge islands, a pram ramp (including tactiles), road line marking reconfiguration on the approaches to the refuge islands, signage, and minor footpath replacement. The works are part of the McCormicks precinct local area traffic management plan (LATM) and were determined based on community feedback and traffic and road surveys. The Victorian Government's Ballarto Road and McCormicks Road intersection upgrade, Carrum Downs – From 7pm Sunday 17 March to mid-July, McCormicks Road will be closed at the Ballarto Road intersection, with a signed detour via Gamble Road, Greenwood Drive or Dion Drive. The traffic lights at the Ballarto Road and McCormicks Road intersection will be switched off. Ballarto Road will be open with one lane in each direction and a reduced speed limit to keep crews safe.
