NCGRT Newsletter | Q3 2022Congratulations! Dr Peter Dillon - 2022 Recipient of the NGWA M. King Hubbert AwardCongratulations to Dr Peter Dillon for receiving The National Groundwater Association 2022 M. King Hubbert Award. Fundamental Groundwater Training Australian Groundwater School 2023Groundwater makes up about 17% of Australia’s accessible water resources, and up to 30% of our water consumption in certain regions. Droughts and climate change place pressure on critical groundwater reserves; it is therefore important that Australia has a well-informed workforce that is ready to tackle these challenges. WHY IS THE COURSE IMPORTANT? WHEN? SEEKING ACCREDITATION? Practical Field Course Field Methods in HydrologyCOURSE OVERVIEW WHEN? SEEKING ACCREDITATION? Maths Webinar Series GMDSI - The Maths Behind PEST and PEST++ Webinar SeriesGMDSI will soon host three webinars. These will be delivered by John Doherty (author of PEST) in biweekly intervals. Dates are as follows: Webinar 1: Wednesday 28th September – Register These webinars will give you a good understanding of the mathematical concepts that underpin model calibration and uncertainty analysis. Check out the GMDSI website for the latest releases! Research Spotlight Tropical water resources has been a large focus at Charles Darwin University. Dylan Irvine and Clément Duvert from NCGRT at CDU are part of a $4M, 3.5-year project with the CRC for Developing Northern Australia to deliver a Water Security Program. The program will investigate water security and the sustainable development of water resources in the Ord, Daly, Gilbert and Fitzroy (QLD) catchments. Also in the tropics, Dr Clément Duvert led a review on Hydrological Processes in Tropical Australia, in the Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies. The review provides both a historical perspective, and outlines a research agenda for hydrological research in Australia’s tropics. The paper is freely available here> Member News NCGRT is delighted to welcome new member Dr Gabriel Rau to its research team. Dr Rau is a Lecturer – Hydrogeology in the School of Environment and Life Sciences at the University of Newcastle and is an Alumnus of UNSW/NCGRT. NCGRT Foundation Director Prof Craig Simmons will join the University of Newcastle in November as the Pro-Vice Chancellor College of Engineering, Science and Environment. NCGRT on behalf of its partners wishes to extend its congratulations to Prof Simmons on his new role and express gratitude for his dedication and contribution to groundwater research and teaching at Flinders University to date. NCGRT is looking forward to continuing research collaboration with Craig and working with Gabriel.
