Message from the Principal

Welcome to our first Semester Newsletter.

I am pleased to introduce the first edition of Kennedy Baptist College's Semester Newsletter. This biannual update will celebrate our past achievements while highlighting the path towards a future full of opportunity.

The stories featured below showcase the remarkable success of our College students, staff, and community. In this edition, we give prominence to the foundational secondary schools of Winthrop Baptist College and Somerville Baptist College, who merged together in 2013 to form Kennedy. In 2024, we celebrate 30 years of shared history and educational excellence.

Our sense of accomplishment is reflected in the recent refurbishment of our Auditorium and Lower Foyer, as well as the academic and sporting success of our students. I encourage you to explore these stories and discover all that we have to celebrate as a community.

I invite you to join us on this journey, whether you are a current parent or a family considering education at Kennedy Baptist College. You might also be a prospective employee discovering our efforts to be an employer of choice or a member of our Alumni rediscovering the path that you have taken.

Wherever you might be in our community, come and celebrate our past, take advantage of today's opportunities, and chart a course for a brilliant tomorrow.

Mark Ashby
Principal

Celebrating 30 Years of Educational Excellence and Christian Mission

Kennedy Baptist College has been able to reap the blessings of being a young school, with a contemporary outlook and the energy to reach our goal of being the leading co-education Christian secondary college in Perth’s south, while benefiting from the history of two schools that set foundations for educational excellence: Winthrop Baptist College and Somerville Baptist College.

As we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of Winthrop Baptist College, we invite the esteemed alumni, past staff, and families of our forerunner schools to join us at Kennedy Baptist College as we honour the past, celebrate the present, and embrace the future.

From Somerville to Kennedy: A Teacher's Journey

Kennedy Baptist College aims to be an employer of choice among teachers and other support staff by providing a supportive and caring environment with an emphasis on staff well-being, professional learning, and development. Our work place is backed by a culture of excellence that is iterated on by new staff members as they build on the foundations of  previous teachers and staff. In 2023, we celebrated the over ten years of service by more than sixty staff members, serving our community since the inception of the College..

Having come from one of our forerunner schools in Somerville Baptist College, Mr Rijk Batley has been a teacher who has helped to build up Kennedy. We spoke to him about why he chose to serve at Somerville and Kennedy, and how his faith and love of learning shaped his teaching.
