I am therefore very excited to announce that the university is implementing oral examinations as part of the PhD program. Oral examinations will be compulsory for PhD students enrolling from Semester 2 this year. Current enrolled PhD students who will submit their thesis after June 2022 will have the opportunity to voluntarily choose an oral examination. More information will be made available by email and on our website once we have developed the necessary procedures and processes. Stay tuned! We have introduced another great initiative for PhD students who are in their first half of their candidature and want to turn theory into practice while building, fostering, and enhancing professional contacts and networks in industry: eligible research internships at an approved partner organisation will be supported with a 3-month scholarship. If you have any questions regarding eligibility, processes or register your interest in internship opportunities, please check our website or contact our newly appointed industry team under hdr_internships@adelaide.edu.au. They are looking forward in engaging with you. Doreen Krumbiegel Tip of the Month Are you planning on submitting your thesis for examination soon? The AGRS website has a whole section on Your thesis & Examination to help you prepare for the big day. Common problems that can delay your thesis being accepted and examined include having an old or incorrect declaration, missing or incomplete Statement of Authorship forms and incomplete Certification of thesis for Examination forms. It might have been a while since you read the thesis and submission requirements therefore it is wise to refresh your knowledge to ensure that the submission and examination of your thesis is as smooth as possible. Unique Student Identifier (USI) A Unique Student Identifier [USI] is a reference number that creates an online record of your qualifications attained in Australia. All students need a USI to receive a qualification upon successful completion from 2023. To create your USI, please visit the Australian Government’s website. The personal details you provide here must be exactly the same as those on record at the University of Adelaide. Once created, log into Access Adelaide and enter your USI in the Statistical Section page, under the ‘Students’ menu. Please contact Ask Adelaide if you require assistance. For international and offshore students, further information is available here; offshore international students are not required to provide a USI. Postgraduate Scholarship OpportunitiesThe Adelaide Graduate Research School maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process. Visit the Postgraduate Scholarships website regularly for up to date information on current scholarship opportunities.
