Best, Katy Dolman Career Control for Researchers - Applications now openCareer Control for Researchers is an online program which gives HDR students the tools, guidance and confidence to take charge of their career direction, determine their own priorities and accelerate their progress. This online program is delivered over an 8 weeks timeframe and includes live, web-based discussion with career specialists. You will also complete self-paced modules with a total average time commitment of 1-1.5 hours per week. This program is recognised for 13 CaRST credits in Domain B. This course will run from 5 April 2022 to 27 May 2022, and the Expressions of Interest for this program are now open. Leadership and the Art of Influence When: 8 March 2022, 10:00am - 12:00pm It’s often said that influence is essential to leadership – but what is influence? In this session Gary Edwards will demonstrate what influence is, how it works, why we are influenced, and how we can use that for our own benefit – whether we are in a formal leadership role or just trying to “lead” someone to where we’d like them to go. Unix Shell and Command Line Basics When: 9 March 2022, 1:30pm - 4:30pm The Unix environment is incredibly powerful but quite daunting to the newcomer. Command line confidence unlocks powerful computing resources beyond the desktop, including virtual machines and High Performance Computing. Seven Secrets of Highly Successful Research Students When: 9 March 2022, 10:00am - 12:30pm What do Higher Degree by Research students do to finish on time, to overcome isolation, doubt and writer’s block, and to enjoy the process? Presented by Hugh Kearns, this workshop describes the key habits that research and experience with thousands of students shows will make a difference to how quickly and easily you complete your HDR. Have you heard the term IP and wondered what it is all about? This presentation from Adelaide Enterprise will give you an overview of what IP is and how it is protected. This will be live streamed. Register here. Handling Difficult Conversations Well When: 15 March 2022, 10:00am - 12:00pm It sometimes seems that life is full of difficult conversations! They’re the ones that we put off, avoid or stumble our way through. But it is possible to handle them with greater certainty and confidence – and still get a good result with less emotional turmoil. Presented by Gary Edwards, this session we will look at how these conversations arise, how they differ from “normal” conversations and how you can use collaborative communication skills to build relationships, reduce conflict, increase learning and improve outcomes. Getting Started with HPC using Slurm When: 15-16 March 2022, 9:30am - 12:30pm High-performance computing allows you to accomplish your analysis faster by using many parallel CPUs and huge amounts of memory simultaneously. This online training, presented by Intersect, provides a hands-on introduction to running software on HPC infrastructure using Slurm. Open to all researchers. Register here. Clinical Research: Establishing Investigator Initiated Trials When: 23 March 2022, 1:30pm - 3:30pm This course will cover the wide range of factors in investigator initiated clinical trials including the context of health science translation, determining the research question, study design, setting up collaborations, the role of industry partners, writing the protocol, assessing study feasibility, managing study participants, costing essentials and funding options for studies. After the course, students should feel confident in joining a clinical research team and understand how it should be conducted. Register here. Traversing t Tests in R When: 30 March 2022, 1:00pm - 4:00pm This workshop aims to familiarise you with basic statistical concepts in R from reading in and manipulating data, checking assumptions, statistical tests and visualisations. This is not an advanced statistics course, but is instead designed to gently introduce you to statistical comparisons and hypothesis testing in R. Register on waitlist. Exploring ANOVAs in R When: 5 April 2022, 9:00am - 12:00pm This half-day course covers one and two-way Analyses of Variance (ANOVA) and their non-parametric counterparts in R.
