Hosted at Epsom and Remuera teams brought their A-game! It was great to see those tactics in action as teams looked to make a move on the scoreboard! Bowled over at 1-5 Finals Day!A massive congratulations to all our 1-5 finalists—your achievements on Sunday were simply outstanding! We witnessed some awesome bowls and top-notch camaraderie, making it a brilliant day for our sport. In the Fours, Howick battled fiercely against a determined Glendowie side, edging out a win with a close 16-15 finish. Meanwhile, in the Pairs, Royal Oak’s duo dominated Rocky Nook, clinching the match 23-6. A big shoutout to Rocky Nook and Glendowie—your incredible efforts and near victories are a huge boost to your club’s legacy! Richard and Gordon’s Road to the FinalFor Richard and Gordon, from Rocky Nook, the 1-5 Pairs Finals wasn’t just about chasing titles. Their journey was fuelled by a desire to represent their club, which has recently undergone significant changes. “There were moments where we thought we wouldn’t make it, but the club’s support kept us going,” said Richard. Their road to the final was an incredible achievement for both them and their club, their story is a reminder that success is about more than the final result. It’s about the journey, the growth, and the support that helps us all rise to the challenge. Kohi's Roll Up - Join Up!-- Cynthia Morris Kohimarama Bowling Club was bustling on Sunday, 20 October. The day began with a morning ‘Graduation Pairs Tournament’ for our Lawn Bowls 101 students. Coaches and club members supported the (now) alumni at each end, reviewing techniques and rules during play—a highly effective learning-by-doing approach. While the graduates enjoyed nibbles and shared insights, another wave of volunteers arrived to set up for Roll Up!, which kicked off at 1 pm. The club encouraged pre-registration and had numerous walk-ins, thanks to signage and social media promotions. Nearly 80 guests participated, with a balanced 50/50 male/female ratio. The beautiful weather sealed the deal, making it a fantastic day for bowls! None of this would have been possible without the dedicated volunteer roster of our amazing club members, who handled everything from letterbox deliveries to organising the bowls sets at the end—and everything in between. These events are an opportunity to grow membership and build club pride, with a role for everyone to contribute. Our success is visible when we welcome new members! A second event is scheduled for February 2025, and we’re excited to report that 18 full memberships were confirmed on Sunday, with more expected in the coming weeks. A big thank you to Bowls Auckland for supporting Roll Up! and encouraging clubs to host open days. Roll Up at Howick - a great day on the green!-- Claire Orr What an incredible turnout we had at Howick Bowling Club’s Roll Up Day on Sunday, 20 October! We were thrilled to welcome between 30 and 40 enthusiastic potential bowlers, many of whom were trying lawn bowls for the very first time. The event saw a wonderful mix of ages, from preschoolers to retirees, all keen to give bowls a go. With the weather on our side, everyone had the chance to enjoy a fantastic experience both on and off the green. It must have been a hit because several of the new faces returned for our Monday morning coaching session! A huge thanks to all the club members who volunteered their time—helping out on the green, organizing the event, cooking up a delicious sausage sizzle, and keeping the bar running. We wanted to ensure our newcomers felt the warmth of the social side of bowls, which is such a strong part of our Howick club’s spirit. We’re excited to see some of these new players join us as members of the club!
