One of the advantages bowling has over golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball.

Auckland women's rep squad head north
Best of luck to our Auckland Women's Open Prem team travelling to Mangawhai this Sunday to compete in a quadrangular competition against Far North, Northland and Counties. Congratulations to the players selected: Catherine Bien, Karen Hema, Kimberley Hemingway, Estelle Hickey, Ashleigh Jeffcoat, Lisa
Prideaux, Linda Ralph and Ling Qu.
This event certainly puts club pride on the line! The two-division format provides stronger competition for the accomplished bowler while at the same time supporting the ongoing development of new and emerging club players. National 7s is a great platform to encourage the participation of players of all capabilities.
The first round Bowls3Five Open kicks off at 6.00pm on Tuesday 25 January. Headquarters is Auckland Bowling Club, with host venues Blockhouse Bay and Glen Eden. The winning team will represent the Auckland region at the National Finals Weekend held in Wellington, from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 May 2022. Good luck to all the teams.

Glen Eden Bowling Club members and the bowling community bid a fond farewell to a bowling favourite, Dean Mullins.
Joining Glen Eden in 2011, a valued and active member, Dean held several club positions; Green Superintendent, Secretary, Junior & Senior Vice President, Health & Safety, Bar & Bowls Committee member. A very keen bowler, Dean won interclub championships in all disciplines over the years - Junior Pairs in 2013, Champ Fours in 2015, Champ Triples in 2016
and Veteran Singles in 2018. Dean showed his consistency by winning the Consistency Singles twice! Rest easy, Dean - you will be missed on the green.
Len Davidson Memorial at Rocky Nook
What a day for the third annual Len Davidson Memorial Bowls3Five! 14 teams, including three from Len’s family and two who saw the event on Facebook and decided it was a great way to celebrate a birthday with the family, gathered for some friendly competition and celebrated the life of our late Patron and President. Bowls was the winner on the day, but so were Pirate Kings (3rd), Tom’s Team (2nd), and Two Safas & winners, A Scotsman (walk into a bar). The trophy was once again presented by Len’s daughter Ruth.
Winners: Two Safas & A Scotsman.

Royal Oak had held their Championship Singles last weekend. It was three years in a row for Mike Bradshaw. Mike reigned supreme again winning the Men's Open Singles title in a finals match with Gavin Brown. Rima Strickland adds another title to her collection by defeating Robyn Fisher to become the Women's Open Singles champ. Congratulations to both Singles champs and well done to the runners-up.

This sweet lady may have a sour expression as she takes note of either the foo-wear choices of social bowlers or the delivery of a wrong bias.
The project manager for the viewing deck and upgrades at Kohi is ready for action. Spot the mascot and fairy houses on your next visit!
Rosemary Goldie adopted the statue from an opp shop years ago, but the members of the then Mission Bay Women’s Bowling Club were uncertain she met their standards and did not appreciate the humour! So she was placed at one of the entries, well camouflaged by the shrubbery. Recently, Kohi's caretaker gave her a makeover, outfitting her in the new club uniform (not fortunate enough for a smile, though!) and debuted at the club opening in December. Rosemary remarked how surprised she was that the younger members really enjoyed the refreshed figure and how this is a record of changing times – we can all laugh at ourselves more and find a funny side to things. That's part of what bowls and belonging to a club is all about! Please contact Kohi if you know of a gentleman bowler figure keen to join the club!
Have you got a story, a bit of news,
or a funny recollection about our bowling community - we'd love to hear from you.
