Battle of the Bridge squads named

Auckland will take on North Harbour for the annual Battle of the Bridge on Sunday, 4 December 2022. With bragging rights on the line, both regional sides will want to put their best case forward in what has always been a formidable challenge with some exciting matchups.

In October of this year, Auckland Men's Premier, in a nail-biting final, won the Men's National Incentre 2022 - so no doubt they will be under the spotlight as they look to continue their winning performance.

There will be two Premier Men’s sides, two Premier Women’s sides, and one side each for the Men’s and Women’s 1-5 Years. Each side participates in two x Fours, four x Pairs, and eight x Singles making a total of 84 matches up for grabs.

Talking of rain!

Let's give a big shout-out to our greenkeepers who have been dealing with the recent atrocious wet weather disrupting playing schedules up and down the country.

With 40 years of greenkeeping experience and countless successes and awards as a premier bowler, Auckland-based Mike Galloway has first-hand knowledge. We chatted with Mike yesterday. He reckons, "It is a fine line between pleasure and pain!"

"In these conditions, you need to be a forecaster & a bit of a miracle worker. It’s tough keeping the greens running at a good speed – too much water & the naturals get soft and soggy. All this rain is keeping us alert and giving us web feet!”

When asked who has the best green in Auckland, his response was, "there are several great greens in Auckland - Howick, Pt Chev, Balmoral, and Papatoetoe, to mention a few. Ellerslie has progressed really well."

Mike is named in the Auckland Premier squad for the Battle of Bridge Challenge on 4 December. In preparation & training for the Challenge, he has entered in this weekend's Auckland Men's Pairs.
