****** ![]() The Art of Palliation: Practicing palliative care requires sustained compassion, self-reflection, and collaboration. Our challenge as interdisciplinary clinicians is to provide empathic and effective care to our patients and their families despite the daily barriers encountered in our healthcare systems. To address this challenge, we are offering a three-part art museum-based experiential curriculum designed to foster these core palliative care clinical and team-based skills outside of the usual structures and hierarchies of the healthcare environment. The first session focuses on self-awareness through critical observation and active listening skills. The second session explores bias, cultural humility, mortality and meaning. The third session addresses empathy and the tolerance of uncertainty. In each session, we reflect on these experiences relative to our practice in palliative care. Location: High Museum of Art and the Carlos Museum at Emory University (parking and museum entrance fees provided) Dates: Wednesday April 14, May 5, and June 9, 2021 Time: 2:30-4:30 PM In addition to each of the 7 Emory HPM Fellow participants, we are recruiting 5 interdisciplinary faculty (physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains) who work clinically with the Emory HPM Fellows from the following fellowship training sites: EUH, EUHM, Atlanta VAMC, Grady, and CHOA. Participation in all three sessions is required, and those selected to participate receive a free 1-year membership to the High Museum of Art.
