Getting Ready for College (Bridge to College 2) 📍Mondays and Wednesdays, October 27 - December 3, 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Getting Ready for College is the second course in Literacy Pittsburgh’s College Pathways track that helps students prepare to enter college. Students will continue to prepare themselves for the college experience by participating in classes led by Literacy Pittsburgh staff that were developed in partnership with several local college partners.
Topics of learning include time management, organizational skills, study strategies, writing practice, presentation skills, understanding college classroom expectations and norms, and managing stress while in college. Students will have the opportunity to learn new skills and brush up their existing knowledge during each class session. Students will also be able to meet one-on-one with Literacy Pittsburgh mentors/advisors at the end of the course to discuss their individual needs and goals. By the end of the class, students will be more prepared to succeed in the college environment. For more information, email Miguel Diaz at mdiaz@literacypittsburgh.org or call/text 412-801-1675. Student Success StoriesCongratulations to the following students! Farida recently wrote about her experiences coming to the United States and learning English with Literacy Pittsburgh as part of an assignment from her tutor. We welcome your students’ writings and are glad to showcase their work! Contact your coordinator if you and your student are interested.
Farida shares her journey to the U.S. and talks about how Literacy Pittsburgh helps her and others: "Literacy is a powerful tool for success," says Farida. "The Literacy Pittsburgh program is helping me improve my English skills. Whether you are new to the city or want to build confidence in reading, writing, or speaking, learning English can open doors to better jobs, education, and daily life. By studying English, you can connect more easily with your community and reach your goals. Don’t wait! Pittsburgh is full of opportunities to grow through literacy!" Mhra sent Literacy Pittsburgh a back-to-school photo to celebrate her first day in the Medical Assistant program at CCAC! She has achieved many milestones with Literacy Pittsburgh’s support — improved English skills, a GED, and U.S. citizenship — and now she’s on her way to a new career. We are so proud of you, Mhra!
Angeli came to the U.S. 17 months ago and, with help from Literacy Pittsburgh, learned English to build a new life. She met with our Career Advisor, Dru, who helped her find a nurse aide trainee position. Angeli was hired in January and was a "star of the class," according to her new employer! Congratulations on your amazing success, Angeli! We're so proud to be a part of your journey.
