GenAI Guidelines take effect next month

The University's Generative AI in Doctoral Research Guidelines take effect on Tuesday 1 September. Now is a good time to get ready by exploring the following resources:

Showcase your research and its impact

The Research Showcase is a great opportunity for you to creatively communicate your research and its impact to a general audience, by entering your academic poster and/or research image. Entries close on Sunday 20 September. Learn more about the Research Showcase.

If you're planning to enter a poster, consider attending the Introduction to Graphic Medicine workshop with Prof Curtis and special guest Assoc Prof Veronica Morreti, from the University of Bologna, on Monday 17 August (City Campus).

Considering a career in academia?

If you’re considering a career in academia, the University's 2027 Academic Career Advancement Programme (ACAP) is for you.

ACAP allows doctoral candidates to explore key aspects of academic life, build interdisciplinary relationships with academics throughout the University, and get a head start in the academic job market. Applications close on Wednesday 30 September. Find out more about ACAP.

NEW! Ideation and Collaboration workshop

Developing a broad idea into a collaborative research proposal can be challenging. In this brand new hands-on workshop, you will have the opportunity to practice research-ideation, collaboration, and constructive peer review. You will work in a small interdisciplinary team to explore a shared topic, generate research ideas, identify knowledge gaps through a framework and develop a mini research proposal.

Making Sense of the Treaty: Foundations for Research Practice

Understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi is an important part of being a researcher in Aotearoa New Zealand. Join this foundational workshop to build a coherent understanding of why Te Tiriti o Waitangi was entered into, what Māori and the Crown were seeking to achieve, what was agreed, and how the relationship subsequently unfolded.

Candidate in the spotlight

Rodney Stehr | Arts and Education

A journey that began in Canada's political corridors led doctoral candidate Rodney Stehr to the Faculty of Arts and Education, where he is exploring Pacific research methodologies and the importance of creating space for Pacific ways of knowing within academia. 

Rodney brings a unique perspective to his research, shaped by his Fijian and Lithuanian heritage, his upbringing in Canada, and a professional background in politics that spans community advocacy and government service.

Scholarships

Fulbright Scholar Awards

Fulbright NZ Scholar Awards provide an opportunity for New Zealand academics to lecture and/or conduct research at US institutions. Awards valued at up to US$37,500 are granted each year, towards three to five months of lecturing and/or research. Closing date: Tuesday 1 October. Find out more and book a one-on-one call.

Medical Scholarship 

Maurice and Phyllis Paykel Trust PhD Research Travel Award: An Award to support a final year PhD student, who is a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, with the costs of travel for research in a medical-related field. Closing date: Thursday 27 August. Apply here.

Performing Arts Scholarship

FAME Emerging Practitioner Award: A $10,000 Scholarship to support a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or postgraduate programme in a performing arts field. Closing date: Wednesday 16 September. Apply here.
