Like every year, I would like to strongly encourage you to take part in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition where you are challenged to effectively explain your research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. The 3MT is an outstanding opportunity for you to improve your presentation and research communication skills and provides great networking opportunities. There are a number of prizes on offer at both Faculty and University level, with the winner of the

When sending emails to the AGRS or lodging a form or thesis, please include your Student ID (minus the ‘a’) and the name of your School or Discipline. 

Many of our staff respond to enquiries in specific Schools and when we know who you are and which School you’re from, it is easy to direct your enquiry appropriately and to locate your details in our systems. There is no need to type out your details every time, simply create a signature file that contains all your contact information.  ITDS have produced a step-by-step guide on how to do this and here is a suggested format you can copy:

    2025 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition

     

    Think you can explain your research in just three minutes with one PowerPoint slide? Now’s your chance!

    Register for the 2025 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition to build confidence, showcase your research, and engage a broader audience. The competition includes in-person faculty heats, faculty finals, and the university final. Winners from each stage will advance to the next, with the University Final winner representing the University of Adelaide at the virtual 3MT Asia-Pacific Final.

    ‘Connection Through Culture’ – HDR Student Event Series

    Please save the date for upcoming social & wellbeing events for HDR students across all Faculties, organised by the HDR Experience Team at the AGRS.

    1. Indigenous Art Therapy Workshop with Marra Dreaming – 8 July (10am–12pm)
    Join us for a calming and creative art therapy session led by a local Indigenous artist. This guided workshop supports student wellbeing through cultural connection, creative expression, and social interaction. No art experience needed—just come ready to reflect, relax, and connect!

    CCSP Review information session 2025 Q&A for Students – 29th of May

    The AGRS invites you to join a Q&A session on how to complete the CCSP Review as a Student. There will be an opportunity for you to ask general questions about the process and how to complete the form. The Core Component of the Structured Program (CCSP) is the first progress milestone you will complete following candidature commencement; it is due by no later than six months, or half-time equivalent, candidature consumed.     Postgraduate Scholarship Opportunities

    The Adelaide Graduate Research School maintains a searchable database of available scholarship opportunities (both full scholarships and supplementary scholarships), funded by both the University of Adelaide and external funding bodies. While the majority of available scholarships are awarded as part of the standard admission and scholarship rounds for domestic and international students, some are awarded at different times throughout the year, and may have a separate application process.

    2025 Endowment Funded Travel Scholarship Round 2

    Are you presenting at a conference in Semester 2, 2025?

    The 2025 Endowment Funded Travel Scholarship Round 2 is now open for applications. A range of scholarships are available to support HDR students with research-related travel costs.

    The following scholarships are on offer:

    • Constantinos Moraitis Research Travel Scholarship in Classics, Archaeology and Ancient History
    • Frank Perry Research Travel Scholarship in Engineering
    • T.G. Wilson Research Travel Scholarship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

    Possingham Research Supplementary Scholarship in Environmental Sustainability

    Are you currently undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Adelaide and is your research project related to environmental sustainability?

    Don’t miss out on this opportunity…….

    Thanks to a generous donation by the Possingham family, this scholarship provides $12,000 per annum / $36,000 in total. This award is for Doctor of Philosophy students, in any discipline, who are already in receipt of a major scholarship and whose research has the potential to deliver a positive environmental outcome.

    The Raymond E Purves Research Supplementary Scholarship

    Are you undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Adelaide in the field of environmental sustainability? Here’s an exciting scholarship opportunity for you…

    The Raymond E Purves Foundation has established the Raymond E Purves Research Supplementary Scholarship to support a postgraduate research scholarship in environmental sustainability. This scholarship provides $12,000 per annum for up to 3 years / $36,000 total in additional support for a PhD student, in receipt of a major scholarship, whose project is in environmental sustainability.

    Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environments and Mineral Exploration Science Supplementary Research Scholarship in Regolith Science

    Are you currently undertaking research in regolith science?  Don’t miss this opportunity…

    The CRC LEME Science Supplementary Research Scholarship in Regolith Science will provide one supplementary scholarship valued at $18,000 per annum, to one full-time student undertaking research in regolith science who is already in receipt of a major scholarship.

    Applications will be open from 1 June 2025 until Friday, 27 June 2025.

    Statistical Research Methods Program by CaRST

    This recently updated self-paced course provides comprehensive, cross-disciplinary support for researchers who require a foundation or refresher in statistical methods. With a pre-program diagnostic tool, signposted material and a modular format, the program improves researcher confidence and motivation in contemporary statistical methods, contributing to effective research projects.

    HDR students can earn 12 CaRST credits in Domain A for successfully completing this course. Enrol here.

       
       

      Florey Conference

      The Florey Postgraduate Research Conference is a major highlight in the faculty's calendar. This is a great opportunity for you as a student, to network with your peers, researchers, and academics from across the university. This year, the conference will feature an additional Postgraduate Careers Expo component aimed at providing advice, guidance, opportunity and support for all current students.

      Defence Trailblazer Publishing for Industry & Impact Masterclass

      This two-hour masterclass is for HDRs, academic and professional staff who would like to learn more about publishing options regarding their industry partnered research projects.

      Delivered by university professional staff and industry connected academics, you will find this masterclass useful if you are seeking to:

      • Gain a better understanding of university publishing processes and considerations that may affect how you publish, e.g., funding arrangements, intellectual property (IP) and patent protections
      • Understand industry’s perspectives when considering publishing joint research projects 
      • Learn more about non-traditional publishing options

      Disability Inclusion Training

      All staff (including HDR students) are invited to register for Disability Inclusion Training, provided by external organisation JFA People Orange. Through this training, you will gain valuable tools to engage effectively and positively with people with disabilities, while challenging and addressing any biases or assumptions you may have. You will develop key skills to create an inclusive environment, ensuring that people with disabilities can fully and equally participate within the University.       Digital Humanities Australasia 2025, early career bursaries

      The Australasian Association for Digital Humanities invites applications for 10 early career researcher bursaries of $500 each to support travel, accommodation, and/or registration costs for attending the Digital Humanities Australasia Conference in Canberra, Australia, from 2 to 5 December 2025.

      The conference will explore digital cultural stewardship, data ethics and inclusive practice, and AI-enhanced Humanities research, within the theme of Digital Archipelagos. Visit the conference website to learn more. Call for papers is open until 6 June.

      Applicants for early career bursaries must submit an abstract to present, can be current Masters or PhD students, or have their degree conferred within the last five years. Applications due by Friday 6th June.

      Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) 2025 – Submissions Open 

      The 2025 Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) competition is open for submissions from Monday May 26th.

      If you’re a currently-enrolled graduate research student who wants to be in the running to win prizes (first place is $1000!) by presenting your research in a 60-second audio-visual display, head to the VYT website for all the competition details.  

      Entries close on Sunday 20 July 2025. Submit your entry via the webform found on the VYT website.
