Poultney Awarded State Planning Grant to Study Municipal Merger
The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) recently awarded $10,377.00 to the Town of Poultney in State Municipal Planning Grant funds for a Municipal Merger Feasibility Study. Poultney currently has two municipalities that govern the community - the Town of Poultney and the Village of Poultney. As the community continues its recovery from the loss of Green Mountain College in 2019,
the desire to investigate a municipal merger has increased. With the grant award, the Town is acting on a directive from voters to investigate the feasibility of a municipal merger. Read more about the FY24 Municipal Planning Grant Projects here →

Chaffee Art Center Receives Rehabilitation Grant
The Chaffee Art Center in Rutland City is one of nineteen municipalities and non-profit organizations to receive a grant. Governor Phil Scott, the Vermont Division for Historic Preservation (VDHP), and the Vermont Advisory
Council on Historic Preservation announced the art center has received $20,000. George Thrall Chaffee built this Queen Anne-style mansion. After his death, the building was boarded up for over 30 years until the Rutland Area Art Association asked to use the building as part of the 1961 Bicentennial celebrations. This success prompted the creation of a permanent art center. The Chaffee Art Center is now a venue for events and art classes for all ages. A matching grant will be used to complete major repairs to the building’s three large and ornate brick chimneys. Learn more about

The first T-Mobile store in Rutland, and the third corporate store in the Green Mountain State, is now open for business. The new store, located at 31 N. Main Street, officially opened on Friday, Dec. 8. Customers and wireless shoppers living in Rutland now have convenient access to a local T-Mobile store where they can choose service plans, smartphones, tablets, and accessories that best meet their wireless needs. Store hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The Rutland location is part of T-Mobile’s efforts to expand its retail footprint with the addition of new stores in small towns and rural communities across the country. The company’s two other Vermont locations in Essex Junction and South Burlington opened in
September 2020. “T-Mobile retail stores offer customers the ease of connecting in-person with our Team of Experts for personalized solutions and the convenience of exploring hands-on with our products and services,” said Jon Freier, President of T-Mobile’s Consumer Group. “That's why we continue to expand our retail footprint in both new and existing markets across the U.S. " With an expanding local presence in Vermont, T-Mobile is also focused on helping to make a difference in communities throughout the state. Programs such as T-Mobile Hometown Grants provide funding to small towns each year to use towards city beautification projects, public improvements, and more. In 2023, Burlington, Vermont received a grant totaling $50,000 to revitalize downtown
Burlington's Champlain Street Park, including buying new inclusive playground equipment, benches, bike racks, lighting, and landscaping. Towns with populations less than 50,000 are eligible and encouraged to apply.
