GAC Newsletter July/August 2022 No images? Click here ![]() ![]() Dear Community of PracticeIt's hard to believe we are halfway through 2022! We are so pleased with the great work that is happening across the apprenticeship ecosystem. Our July/August Grow Apprenticeship California newsletter will share resources related to exploring intermediaries and how they support apprenticeship programming. We are excited to share a new educational resource that we hope will get at the heart of intermediaries and their apprenticeship roles. Readers will find an apprenticeship program success story in this month's newsletter and other exciting announcements. As we continue to bring diverse voices and partners together to discuss the growth of the apprenticeship system here in California, our team is looking to contribute to these efforts by highlighting effective practices and lessons learned by practitioners in the field. This space is emerging, and we all play a role in connecting learners and worker's career pathways with livable and sustainable wages. We hope you will join our team and the conversation as we learn more about intermediaries. We encourage you to learn more about Grow Apprenticeship California and connect to our expanding Community of Practice. Connect with the Grow Apprenticeship California Forum via LinkedIn. Until next month and with care, Apprenticeship Support

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT 21st Century Apprenticeship WebinarOn April 21, 2022, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and its Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) hosted a webinar that featured international staffing company Robert Half, which recently launched an apprenticeship program as a talent solution for their own workforce and for companies that work with them. DAS Deputy Chief Adele Burnes moderated the conversation. Event speakers included DIR Director Katie Hagen, Robert Half Senior Vice President Jorge Marquez, Robert Half Chief Information Security Officer Clint Maples, and Robert Half Information Security Analyst Apprentice Jasmine Weddle. For questions about California Registered Apprenticeship, email DAS at DASAWI@dir.ca.gov or visit our website. For more information about Robert Half, please contact John Calve, Apprenticeship & Workforce Innovation (AWI) National Director, at john.calve@roberthalf.com or visit their website www.roberthalf.com/. ANNOUNCEMENTS Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000, in partnership with the State of California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), is seeking a California community college to serve as a Local Education Agency (LEA) partner The State of California Government Operations Agency IT Apprenticeship Program (IT Apprenticeship) is an effort that has been ongoing since 2016 and is aimed at addressing pronounced current and future needs of the State’s IT workforce. This IT apprenticeship program is focused on upskilling incumbent state employees — who possess the requisite interest and aptitude — from their current occupations into areas such as networking and client services. This apprenticeship program is supported by a partnership between Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1000 and the State of California Department of Human Resources (CalHR). We are collectively seeking a California community college to serve as a Local Education Agency (LEA) to partner with on future grants towards continuing the IT Apprenticeship, as well as exploring new apprenticeship efforts. If your college may be interested in potentially partnering with us on this apprenticeship opportunity, please contact us at apprenticeships@calhr.ca.gov with any questions or to indicate interest. We would love to hear from you! California Community College Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE) Fall 2022 Pre-Conference Session | October 4, 2022 According to an African proverb, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." This sentiment rings true as we explore the role partnerships play in developing innovative and collaborative approaches to bridging education and work. Through partnerships, we can strengthen that bridge and engage in a concerted effort to ensure our students succeed in their career pathways. Join the Grow Apprenticeship California team as we host a pre-conference workshop where we will engage in group learning activities and discuss the importance of broadening the scope of what successful partnerships can look like and how to begin to develop them. Participants will engage in participatory activities during the pre-conference to identify partnerships and share examples of how different connections have benefited work-based programs and the learners they serve. The pre-conference workshop is open to all CCCAOE conference attendees and non-conference attendees. Attendees can expect an educational event designed to provide opportunities to expand content knowledge and skills in a supportive and peer-to-peer learning environment. Please note: this event will have limited space, and we recommend you register no later than September 9, 2022.
