Advising Highlight: UW-Stevens Point Major Maps

UW-Stevens Point created Major Maps to be used as a tool for students to increase awareness of and participation in opportunities that can lead to strong employment outcomes following graduation. The Major Maps provide useful co-curricular learning opportunities as identified by faculty and academic staff and include active links for exploration and referral online.  This project was supported by the efforts of UW-Stevens Point academic departments, academic advisor Rebecca Bevers, and Elijah Allord, a student communications specialist.

Career Services Highlight: UW-Madison AI Career Toolkit

A working group of career services from across UW-Madison has developed and published an Artificial Intelligence Career Toolkit (wisc.edu) with best practices for using generative AI in students' career development journeys. The toolkit is designed to help students:

  • Explore majors, careers, and career paths
  • Apply for jobs, internships, and other workplace experiences
  • Navigate their future career and the technology-driven world of work

The toolkit addresses career prompt engineering to elicit specific, high-quality responses from AI, for example, to align internship or job application materials with the position description, edit a draft interview thank-you message, create a script for salary negotiation, and much more. The toolkit indicates when the expertise of a career advisor is most important.

The toolkit also highlights Big Interview, which is an online job interview training platform that UW-Madison students can access for free with their log-in credentials. Big Interview uses AI to process students' mock interview videos and provide immediate feedback.
