Real Rutland Weekend Getaway
Real Rutland hosted a Weekend Getaway October 11-14. This Weekend Getaway is an opportunity for families from across the country to visit Rutland County with a lens on relocating here. Five Hundred Nineteen families from almost all 50 states applied for this chance. Five families were randomly selected and invited for an almost all-inclusive weekend. While here, they met with a realtor, spoke with people about employment, met locals who love living here, attended local festivals and fall attractions, and participated in a scavenger hunt, which took them throughout Rutland County. Those selected traveled from Weymouth, Massachusetts, St. Charles, Illinois, Herndon, Virginia, Conroe, Texas, and Nine Mile Falls, Washington. This campaign reached
over 750,000 people, furthering the awareness of Rutland County, Vermont. Real Rutland has since connected with everyone not selected for this weekend to determine how we can help them if they are still interested in learning more about relocating here. Real Rutland is the Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region's Regional Marketing Initiative, launched in 2016 after identifying the need to increase our workforce and overall population in Rutland County to support the necessary business growth. This announcement was made in The Hub's Streetside Cafe in Downtown Rutland. The program – Roofs Over Rutland – will add much-needed units to the city’s housing stock,
helping fulfill Mayor Doenges’ vision of adding 1,000 new housing units to Rutland City over the next five years. Funding will support multiple initiatives for both developers and homeowners, including $3 million for new housing projects with one to four units and $5 million for larger developments. Funds may also support the revitalization of previously inhabitable spaces. 2025 Recreation Trails Program has Launched
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation (FPR) is pleased to announce the official launch of the 2025 Recreation Trails Program! Each year the Recreational Trails Program (RTP) offers the opportunity for Vermont municipalities, non-profits, and other governmental entities to receive funds to develop, restore, and maintain public recreational trails. RTP is a reimbursement program funded by the Federal Highway Administration and is expected to administer $500,000 in this year’s round. Applicants may apply for projects that exceed $50,000. A commitment to securing a minimum 20% match is required by the grantee. In the initial phase of the program, we welcome interested applicants to submit a
Pre-Application. At this stage, FPR will review materials to assess the project’s readiness, eligibility, and potential compliance needs. This year’s Pre-Application process will include a new Climate Resilience Risk Form to assess the resilience of the project and help guide the grant applicants to develop more resilient projects. The deadline for Pre-Applications is December 6th, 2024. Also new to the program this year, is a Flood Recovery Track which will support small communities to rebuild and recover from trail damage caused by the July 2024 flooding events. This initiative is made possible by the Vermont Recreational Trails Fund with $74,000 worth of available funds in this round. These awards are intended to cover past construction work, meaning costs
incurred while repairing flood damage must date back to July 10, 2024, and be completed by January 31, 2025, to be eligible. Learn More and Register→

Opening a Business in Rutland After Relocating Here
Kaleidoscope Art Supply is a creative haven for those who love art, make art, or simply want to engage with the community through an artistic lens. Curator and artist Raven Crispino had always dreamed of opening a space where creatives could converge and share their passion. She imagined a place where lesser-known artists could showcase their work, and where art enthusiasts could readily find premium art supplies. Driven by this vision, she took a bold leap of faith determined to turn her dream into reality. Moving to Vermont from New Jersey,
Crispino set her sights on Rutland after she was warmly welcomed at several mixers hosted by the Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region. Knowing that running a business was new territory for her, she followed the advice of the Rutland Redevelopment Authority and reached out to business adviser Nancy Shuttleworth at the Vermont Small Business Development Center for guidance. “I am so fortunate to work with someone who is not only knowledgeable but also supportive and understanding,“ Crispino said. “Nancy listens attentively, offers thoughtful feedback and practical advice, and is genuinely invested in my success.“ Read More →
