This panel discussion centralises the voices of such victim survivors who have each repackaged their lived experience into a drive for advocacy and activism, or into a career within related sectors. The session will be facilitated by Dr Ilsa Evans, author of Battlescars: Long Term Effects of Domestic Violence and the best-selling novel Broken. When: Wednesday 2 December OUR PANELLISTSGeraldine Bilston Chantelle McGuinness Chantelle is a proud Gunitjmara, Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri women. Since exiting an abusive relationship, Chantelle has thrived, going onto further education as well as bringing up her two boys. She now shares her story in the hope that other victim survivors see that they are not alone and feel heard. Kaitlyne Bowden With lived experiences of family violence, out-of-home care and alternative education, Kaitlyne draws on her past to stand up for those who are facing social and systemic injustices. As well as working and volunteering in non-profit organisations, Kaitlyne is one of the Youth and Young Person representatives on the Victim Survivors’ Advisory Council (VSAC). Gaynor Holmes Gaynor experienced significant family violence as a child and then again as an adult. However Gaynor was also able to alter this trajectory and eventually entered into a career as a Family Violence Specialist. She describes the long-term effects of prior abuse as omnipresent, but has used her lived experience to fuel her ambition to help victim survivors of family violence as they rebuild their lives.
