Volunteer Opportunity Spotlight: Pitt Farmers Market Set-Up

Help the Pitt Farmers Market managers and vendors set up the market! Volunteers will help set up tents, unload products from vendors' vehicles, and set up the compost drop-off station, among other responsibilities.

Please wear closed-toed shoes and be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Markets are rain or shine, so be prepared for inclement weather. Meet in the Gallagher Plaza in front of the William Pitt Union. Shifts run from 9 to 10:30 a.m. every Thursday starting October 5 through November 16.

Roberto Clemente Foundation Gala 2023

The Roberto Clemente Foundation is seeking volunteers for the Roberto Clemente Annual Gala to be held Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Senator John Heinz History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.

They are seeking:

  • Available volunteers on September 13 or 14 with a minimum of a 2-5 hour commitment
  • Able to lift/handle boxes between 5-10lbs
  • Prepare Silent Auction items, set-up signage, step-and-repeat banners
  • Preparing gift bags on Wednesday, Sept. 13
  • Review floor plans/place seating cards on tables
  • Meet and Greet: welcome and direct guests to General Reception, VIP Reception and Green Room
  • Assist with Silent and Live Auction
  • Assist guests with locating their seats
  • Hand out gift bags at the end of the night
  • Break down

Ukrainian Relief Dinner and Prayer Service

The International Orthodox Christian Charities Pittsburgh Metropolitan Committee is hosting the Ukrainian Relief Dinner and Prayer Service on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Greek Greek Orthodox Cathederal to support the Ukrainian emergency relief effort.

Volunteers are needed to help set up tables, the buffet, run food to the buffet, help warm up food, and manage the tables throughout the dinner. Volunteers should wear black pants or skirt and a white shirt. If they don't have black pants and a white shirt, then just nice pants will do, but no jeans.

Strong Women Strong Girls Strong Leaders

Strong Women Strong Girls (SWSG) is looking for one-on-one mentoring and general volunteer involvement at their events. One-on-one mentoring includes being matched with a college student. SWSG provides you with training and tools to be a mentor, then you and your mentee drive your relationship by establishing your own meeting schedule, topics of conversation, etc.

As a general volunteer, you will be part of the Strong Leader Community to receive requests to sign up as a voluntter for SWSG events throughout the year.

Volunteer opportunities at Pitt are open to all members of the University community and provide a chance to make meaningful connections with your colleagues and classmates.

  • Students may volunteer for any opportunity that interests them (plus, some are eligible for OCC credit!).
  • Faculty may volunteer as many hours as their time and inclination allows.
  • Staff are eligible to receive paid time off each month to participate in community service or volunteer activities. Full-time regular staff members may use up to 7.5 hours during regular working hours per month; part-time regular staff members are eligible for pro-rated volunteer time.
