In this month’s Green Leader Q&A, we speak to Mia Froger, Head of Sustainability at Øya Festival, a 20,000-capacity event in Oslo, Norway. Mia has worked for environmental action for over 20 years, she has a passion for regenerative food production and has written three books about sustainable food, she brings her expertise in this area to inform the food & drink strategy at Øya. New Environmental Chapter of the Purple Guide – Industry Consultation Open FOR FEEDBACK
|

|
Vision: 2025 has been commissioned by the Event Industry Forum’s (EIF) Purple Grants Fund, to write a new chapter of the Purple Guide on Environmental Sustainability for events. It is intended to provide basic level guidance on best practice and signpost to resources to support event organisers.
A draft has been prepared by an industry working group and is available to the industry for comment until Friday 1st September. Feedback will be reviewed in September and the chapter will be published on the 18th of October 2023. Download the draft and share your feedback.

SES 23 brings event organisers, suppliers, local authorities and experts together to share the latest innovations, drive best practice, and shape the industry response to the climate emergency.

Resource Spotlight: Yourope's European Green Festival Roadmap 2030
|
|
|
Yourope, the European festival association, has released the European Green Festival Roadmap 2030, a comprehensive guide designed to assist European festivals and events in adopting sustainable practices.
Developed as part of the “Future-Fit Festivals” project, the roadmap aligns with the EU Green Deal’s emissions reduction target of at least 55% by 2030 and incorporates the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and industry requirements.
The roadmap is the result of collaboration between Yourope, A Greener Future (AGF), Greener Events Norway, and the GO Group (Green Operations Europe) think tank. Download the Roadmap HERE.

Fusion Festivals Case Study: Your Planet at Superbloom Festival

Each month we feature a case study from the FUSION – Festivals as Social Innovation Incubators project. This month we look at the 'Your Planet' project at Superbloom Festival, Munich, Germany (capacity 50,000).
Superbloom devotes half of its program to non-musical content. These include an area that sees itself as an interactive playground for sustainability projects, social initiatives and innovative thoughts about our future ‒ it’s called YOUR Planet. Future Festival Tools Case Study: Øya Festival Norway
|
|
|
Øya Festival, Norway (capacity 20,000), phased out the use of diesel generators by connecting to mains power with support from the local government and energy supplier. Øya began the project in 2009 and by 2011 they were running on 100% renewable energy via a Green Tariff through mains power. Read the full case study
