Service Coordination Events June Office Hours: Food Assistance & Allegheny Go! 📍Monday, June 9 & Tuesday, June 10, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Service Coordination will be assisting students receiving SNAP benefits to enroll in Allegheny Go, which reduces the cost of bus fare by 50%! Additionally, we will be helping students connect with food assistance in their local community. Save the Date: Summer Resource Fair 📍Wednesday, June 25, 11:30 am - 1:30 pm Literacy Pittsburgh will be hosting a Summer Resource Fair featuring local vendors who can support you with public transportation, women’s clothing, housing assistance, and more. Thinking About College Class Recap ![]() ![]() ![]() On May 7, the first class for Literacy Pittsburgh’s College Pathways program came to a close. The class, titled Thinking About College, gave students broad exposure to college admissions topics such as financial aid, student support in college, and college entrance exams, among other topics. In this class, students participated in a series of workshops and presentations conducted by internal and external presenters from organizations such as CCAC, Point Park University, and Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. Students even got to tour Point Park University as a part of their classroom experience. On the final day of class, students participated in a post-secondary fair, where representatives from Carlow University, Point Park, CCAC, as well as CareerLink® answered student questions about the next steps in their academic journeys. College Pathways will continue to offer additional classes going forward. The next class will be a College Writing Workshop starting July 7, 2025. This class will be taught by Geeta Kothari, a former University of Pittsburgh English professor. The class is designed to help students improve their academic writing skills and their editing and revision skills for college or the workplace. Dennis has passed several components of the GED test and has faithfully attended and worked alongside his tutors at the Mooncrest GED group. Literacy Pittsburgh is proud of the hard work and dedication he has shown in working toward his goal of obtaining a GED. We look forward to seeing what his next career endeavor will bring. ![]() Mario, one of Tina's students, has passed his naturalization test. He returned to class to share his story with his fellow classmates. Congratulations, Mario! ![]() Miranda, Mario, and Natalia each completed their final presentations in English using PowerPoint, showcasing their growth in language, technology, and healthcare knowledge. Miranda delivered her first presentation in English. Miranda hopes to enter the healthcare field as a nurse here in the U.S. She previously worked as an LPN in her home country. Mario also gave an excellent presentation using PowerPoint, choosing a relevant healthcare topic and presenting it effectively. He is a dedicated learner and medical professional, and we are confident he will succeed in his upcoming medical courses. Natalia completed a thoughtful and well-prepared presentation in English for her final class project. Learning English, technology, and healthcare content simultaneously is no easy task, but Natalia continues to do a wonderful job. She is a kind and hardworking student who is focused on practicing English and exploring career opportunities in healthcare.
