A landmark UK study involving thousands of families has shown that childhood screening for type 1 diabetes is effective, laying the groundwork for a national screening programme. Results from the first phase of the ELSA (Early Surveillance for Autoimmune diabetes) study, co-funded by charities Diabetes UK and Breakthrough T1D, are published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Following approval from its notified body, CamDiab Ltd announces its latest innovation that will allow users to manage their type 1 diabetes without needing to count carbohydrates or give pre-meal insulin. This latest innovation will be the world’s first, commercially available, automated insulin delivery algorithm to enable people living with type 1 diabetes to utilise a fully closed-loop system. A newly published resource outlines an integrated, evidence-based approach to improving diabetes services across primary, community and specialist care. The Diabetes Model of Care Toolkit (2012-2025) reflects more than a decade of collaboration between NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR), University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL), National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands and EDEN to create a practical model for diabetes care.
