[St. Ann Church, Kaneohe]
It is so easy for us to get water. We turn on a tap and it comes out hot or cold. We have it delivered to our houses in bottles. It is hardly imaginable to be without access to water so conveniently. Yet not too many years ago -- and even today in many places in the world -- obtaining water was no easy task. You had to take your buckets, walk out to the town well, fill your buckets with water, and carry the water home, hoping you did not spill too much on the way. The drudgery of getting it may not seem worth it, until you realize you simply cannot live without it.
Jesus was thirsty after a long journey. He asked someone he was not even supposed to talk to for a drink. We are not told whether he ever got his drink of water. What is clear is that he got what he was really thirsting for, the soul of this woman. Read more...

The high school division of St. Anthony School in Wailuku, which has provided Catholic education on Maui for more than 175 years, will close its doors at the end of this academic year.
The announcement was made by Msgr. Terry Watanabe, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of the school’s board of directors, in a Feb. 6 news release.
The school’s faculty and staff will focus on serving students from preschool through eighth grade using a new multi-age classroom model, according to the release.
“We are a people of hope,” said Mary Jean Bega, principal of St. Anthony School. “We know that it’s in God’s time that it will happen again. Read more...

CRS Rice Bowl - A Lenten Call for Peace

From the Office for Social Ministry
“Today we lift up our prayer for peace in the world, asking that nations renounce weapons and choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy.” - Pope Leo XIV, Prayer Intention for March 2026
As bombs were falling in the Middle East, Pope Leo XIV lifted his hands and spirit in a worldwide prayer for peace. News of conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran has stirred deep anxiety across the globe. Images of destruction, fear among civilians and the threat of further escalation remind us how fragile peace can be. During his Angelus in St. Peter’s Square on March 1, our Holy Father spoke with urgency and clarity. “I am following with deep concern what is happening in the Middle East and in Iran during this tumultuous time.” He then spoke about the urgent need for dialogue and disarmament: “Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons, which sow destruction, suffering and death, but only through reasonable, sincere and responsible dialogue.” The Holy Father went on further, calling world leaders to halt
“the spiral of violence before it becomes an unbridgeable chasm.” Read more...

(Photo credit: CRS Rice Bowl social media)
Eating a simple meatless meal during Lent can helps us reflect on the hunger that many people face worldwide and make a donation to help ensure all the members of our global family have access to enough nutritious food.
Tostadas - Guatemala
Though often eaten as an appetizer in Guatemala, tostadas are also great served as a snack or a fast meal on a busy night. Toppings are spread across three tortillas, leaving room to play with any additions you may want.

ʻOhana Mass, Mar 28
|
 |
|
Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.
Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Honolulu
From the Office for Social Ministry
At Mary, Star of the Sea Church on Oahu, parishioners established their Ministry for Persons with Disabilities by welcoming persons with varying gifts and abilities to celebrate the “’Ohana Mass.” Ushers who are members of the Knights of Columbus offer a warm welcome and escort them to the designated pews where they were able to better participate in the Eucharist. After Mass, the community continues fellowship together through a potluck supper where all joyfully serve each other with nourishing food and aloha. These “‘Ohana Masses” and potluck fellowship normally take place on the fourth Saturday each month, 5:30 p.m. at Mary, Star of the Sea where all are welcomed to celebrate and share their gifts as one ‘Ohana.
Live stream available at Mary, Star of the Sea's YouTube Channel.

Saint of the Week
Saint Frances of Rome
1384–1440
Memorial - March 9
Frances was born into an aristocratic family in the Eternal City of Rome near the famed Piazza Navona. From an early age, she was drawn to God and responded with much generosity. At the age of eleven, she told her father that she wanted to become a nun, but her father had other plans for her life. He informed her that he was giving her hand in marriage to Lorenzo Ponziani, a wealthy aristocrat who was a commander in the papal army. Frances struggled with her father’s decision and brought her concern to a local priest. Read more...
