Tracks and Trails Online Hui

Tēnā koutou,

Herenga ā Nuku Aotearoa, the Outdoor Access Commission, warmly invites you to our next Tracks and Trails Hui on Thursday, 17 August, starting at noon. The Zoom link will be open from 11.45 am for introductions, so please do join us if you have time.

We are inviting people to register for this meeting through Lil Regie. To attend and get the Zoom details, you will need to register with your name and email address, and it will issue out a “ticket” with all the event details, plus a calendar invite so you can add it to your calendar. It will also automatically send a reminder to you. We send the invite this way to protect your privacy.

Topic: Removing the barriers to accessible trails 

Speakers

  • Katie Owen, Disability and Inclusion Programme Manager for Recreation Aotearoa
  • Simon Alefosio-Tuck, Recreation Partnerships Advisor for Rotorua Lakes Council, and
  • Mark Inglis, Trail Coordinator for Hurunui Trails and Trail Manager for St James Cycle Trail

Items covered include:

  1. The Accessible Outdoors Working Group and the Accessible Outdoors Guidelines progress – what are they, and why are they important for trail groups to consider and contribute to?
  2. Examples of improved trail accessibility, and community impact (including trail rebuilds, modified gate design, and signage).
  3. Discussion with tracks and trails groups on what considerations and challenges you have when building tracks (physical barriers, multi-use of tracks).
