Highlight for May - Bee’s Buzzing Business

Leslie Bishop (Māori), founder of A Lil Bee, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington

To reduce reliance on supermarket produce and inspire sustainable gardening, Bee’s thriving business offers organic gardening and consultation services. Profits from her natural, handmade skincare products fund edible gardens and fruit trees in local schools and the community.

In the past year, Leslie expanded her skincare line and added wax melts. As the community gardens’s sole kaitiaki, she is training a volunteer to join as an employee while growing her business.

Sustainability is key. Lil Bee offers a free local cardboard pickup service, uses natural ingredients with minimal packaging, and supports community gardens. Leslie repurposes materials, uses low-impact transport, and designs eco-friendly gardens.

Lil Bee aims to be a koha, not a hoha, to the taiao.
