Call for PGR Volunteers:

Your view on the Doctoral and Researcher College webpages

At the Doctoral and Researcher College (formerly the Doctoral College & Centre), we are looking to develop our webpages to make them more effective and accessible for the PGR and Staff community.

We are asking for PGR volunteers to attend a meeting on Monday 15th July @ 2pm – 3:30pm in Swan Room, Elm Bank. We will offer an update on how we envisage the webpages can be developed, and we are seeking your feedback and insights in this process. We will also be inviting staff members from across the Research Centres to attend.

If you would like to attend, please email Dr Tom Webb (Researcher Developer – Projects) via ad9490@coventry.ac.uk. Please note that places at the meeting are subject to availability and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

If you can’t attend but would like to offer your views on how the Doctoral and Researcher College webpages could be developed, please send these via email to the above contact. All feedback is appreciated.

Dr Who? Let's talk about...Receiving Feedback

Dr Who? discussion meetings offer you the opportunity to meet with others in a similar situation to help, support, understand and encourage each other.

Part of becoming an independent researcher is learning to receive feedback in a way that is constructive for you. In this Dr Who session, you will get the opportunity to talk to colleagues who feel the same and explore some ways others have found to deal with the matter of receiving feedback, not taking feedback personally and learning from both our failures and successes.

Join our online Q&A session with Simon Higgins (Medical Science Liaison at Ardelyx) for PhD students and graduates who are keen to explore the role of Medical Science Liaison (MSL).

In this session, you will gain first-hand insight into what the day in the life of an MSL looks like, how to communicate skills gained during a PhD to recruitment managers, and how to start networking to land a MSL position.

Simon will answer your questions on what MSL roles actually entail and what skills you should be focusing on developing during your PhD if you are interested in an industry-based role after graduating.

Power & Politics in the Neoliberal University: A Dialogic Discussion

The topics of discussion will revolve around the political economy of neoliberalism in higher education, the politics of publishing, issues of class, race, status, and hierarchy, new managerialism, workloads and work-life balance, dealing with critical feedback and rejection, managing conflict, and staying true to your values as both an academic and a person.

We consider how universities could be re-directed to serve democracy and what we can all do to achieve this.
