In welcoming students back to Term 2, I spoke with them about the NSW Public Schools Behaviour Code for students, outlined below:
In NSW public schools’ students are expected to:
■ Respect other students, their teachers and school staff and community members
■ Follow school and class rules and follow the directions of their teachers
■ Strive for the highest standards in learning
■ Respect all members of the school community and show courtesy to all students, teachers, and community members
■ Resolve conflict respectfully, calmly, and fairly
■ Comply with the school’s uniform policy or dress code
■ Attend school every day (unless legally excused)
■ Respect all property
■ Not be violent or bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco into our schools
■ Not bully, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against anyone in our schools. Schools take strong action in response to behaviour that is detrimental to self or others or to the achievement of high-quality teaching and learning.
This is also a timely reminder to all of the school’s Core Values of Respect, Responsibility and Do Your Best, which underpin our Six Expected Behaviours and all activities we undertake; be it in the classroom, at sport, on excursions or travelling to from school. It was also very pleasing to see the students were in full school uniform and prepared for learning and ready for a successful term ahead. Any families needing assistance with uniforms should contact the school on 65568100.
Parent Teacher interviews are being held on Tuesday 10 May for Years 9 and 10 and then on Tuesday 17 May for Years 11 and 12, in the MPC. NAPLAN also begins this week and will continue into Week 4 for all students in Years 7 and 9. The NAPLAN tests this year will be online. There will also be mid-course examinations for Years 7 to 10 in Week 5.
The school has agreed to participate in a School Development Review (SDR) to be conducted in Week 9, from 20 to 23 June. The school development review focus areas will be:
· Staff wellbeing and supervision practices
· Teaching practices including face to face and distance education
· Visible and distributed instructional leadership
These focus areas will strengthen and support the operation of the school. These are critical areas to the delivery of high expectations around student performance into the future. The staff look forward to explicit strategies and achievable outcomes as a result of this SDR to support quality educational practices.
Term 2 is a very full one with many student activities planned formal and informal teaching and learning activities as well as sporting and cultural opportunities and celebrations, excursions, festivals and shows. I am looking forward to the many successes I know we as a school community will be celebrating during Term 2.

Student Leadership at Government House
On Thursday 24 March our School Captains, Mia and Jasmine flew from Port Macquarie to Sydney with Year Advisor Ms. Graham to attend a student leadership program at Government House.
After a walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens to Government House the group joined student leaders from all over NSW for a tour of the historic home and an informative presentation on the NSW Governors role and responsibilities. The 39th NSW Governor, Margaret Beazley AC QC, addressed the group about leadership in her position as well as throughout her law career.
The group then moved on to NSW Parliament House where they participated in a question-and-answer session with a range of current state parliament members about leadership roles as well as current issues affecting our state. They then briefly met with Leslie Williams, member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Port Macquarie.
Charlie Competes at National Sabot Titles
Charlie has competed and sailed in the Easter holidays for the National Sabot Titles (Teralba, Lake Macquarie) in the sailing class called Sabot.
In July last year, Charlie sailed his boat, Vitamin C 7129 in the Nationals (Townsville, QLD) and he was 7th in the fleet. This year, Charlie sailed his heart and legs out and sailed into 3rd place (out of 44 competitors). The wind was light southerlies and increased in strength for the last day with four back to back races on the water. Charlie won the last two races and his total score locked in 3rd place.
Charlie was presented his trophies by Australian Olympian sailor, Iain Jensen (who also competed in the Sabot class as a younger sailor).
Charlie competed in the Northern NSW team and the Northern NSW team also won the entire regatta with the highest points.
The Sabot class has a high level of tight racing, amazing displays of sportsmanship, infectious energy and smiles that creates lasting friendships and memories for all the sailors.
Congratulations Charlie and good luck for the QLD State Titles!!!

Reeve and Adam in U15's Northern NSW Rugby League
On Tuesday 3 May Adam and Reeve represented the U15's Northern NSW in Rugby League where they played against a traditionally very strong Hunter team in the North Coast Selection Trials to compete at the NSW trials next month.
Reeve and Adam played exceptionally well as did the entire Northern Team. They went down narrowly to Hunter 24-20.
Adam was one of four Northern players selected in the North Coast team. The remainder of the squad was made up of Hunter Players.
Reeve's effort to be selected in the Northern team and be close to selection for the North Coast team is extraordinary, considering his first game of League was at the Lower North Coast trials in March this year. No doubt he has progressed his game to a very good level extremely quickly.
Best of luck to Adam at the NSW trials where he will compete against the best U15 league players in NSW for a position in the NSW CHS team.
North Coast came 4th overall- which was a fantastic effort. They haven’t placed in the top four for a very long time!
Reeve represented CHHS in the North Coast AFL team at the NSW Trials. He played well and was a little unlucky not to gain selection. He played his heart out winning every contest for the ball - there were 11 teams in attendance and they took 22 players through to the round with them.
The grand final was amazing, with Hunter beat Riverina by 1 point right on the buzzer. Such a great contest!!
Cooper's Achievement at Phillip Island
Cooper has just been to Phillip Island in Victoria to race for the first time. Overall Cooper finished 4th out of 26 competitors on Saturday – also Cooper was fastest on the track in heats 1 and 2.
Currently with Cooper being only 15 years of age, he isn’t allowed to race in NSW until he is 16 so he has to travel to Queensland and Victoria for races in which he can compete. At the end of May he is heading to Morgan Park Raceway in Queensland for the second round of the X3 series Hyundai excel.
Well done Cooper on such a great result and good luck in your upcoming races.
