When: Tuesday 19 March, 8-9.30am Helping small businesses close the gender pay gap The Victorian Government marked International Women’s Day 2024 with the release of a new toolkit to help small businesses close the gender pay gap. The Pay Equality Toolkit will support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to achieve pay equality in their workplace, and includes a resource to help assess the opportunities for businesses, as well as guides and templates for creating an equal pay policy. ATO targets under-reporting of sales The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has raided businesses suspected of using, manufacturing and supplying electronic sales suppression tools (ESSTs) to under-report tax obligations. This activity follows the release of the SFCT ESST Intelligence Bulletin in September 2023, which warned businesses about ESSTs. It has been illegal to produce, supply, possess, use or promote ESSTs in Australia since October 2018 and there are harsh penalties for those who do.
