Dr. Ines Lohse Receives ICRE Distinguished Research Mentor Award
|
|
We are thrilled to congratulate Dr. Ines Lohse, co-director of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Lab, on receiving the Distinguished Research Mentor Award at this year’s Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) Commencement Ceremony.
Dr. Lohse was honored not once, but twice during the ceremony—first, as a graduate of the prestigious Mother’s Leading Science program, and second, for her exceptional mentorship in research. The Distinguished Research Mentor Award is a recognition bestowed upon faculty who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to guiding and inspiring the next generation of researchers.
“It is an honor to be nominated by students for this award and to make an impact on their lives and careers. Mentoring students is very important to me, and to see it acknowledged is very rewarding. I benefited from the advice of amazing mentors throughout my life, and I hope to make a similar impact on the lives of my students,” Dr. Lohse said.
This summer, Dr. Lohse will continue that mission with five students joining her lab through the Hillman Academy and the BMRC’s summer research programs. With three current mentees heading off to medical school and new students entering the lab, she continues to build a dynamic and supportive environment for young scientists.

AANA '25: Presentations and Podiums
|
|
The 2025 AANA Annual Meeting, held May 8–10 in Washington, D.C., brought together leaders in arthroscopy and minimally invasive orthopedic surgery for a weekend of clinical insights, research, and innovation.
The UPMC Orthopaedic Care team was well represented at this year’s annual meeting including ICLs, general sessions and several podium presentations. Dr. Albert Lin moderated a case-based discussion on non-arthroplasty management of massive irreparable rotator cuff tears, joined by Drs. Ivan Wong, Sara Edwards, and Eric Wagner. Dr. Lin also led a session on revision strategies for failed anterior arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, with faculty including Drs. Aman Dhawan, Katherine Coyner, and Ivan Wong. Dr. Michael McClincy gave an ICL with several sports hip experts from around the country.
Dr. Lin and colleagues presented research on the protective effect of adding remplissage to Bankart repair in shoulders with critical humeral bone loss. Dr. Scott Feeley (Walter Reed) was awarded the best fellow research paper, with collaborators from Walter Reed, Duke and Pitt.
The team showcased several posters, including studies on glenoid track assessment via imaging, return-to-sport testing after shoulder stabilization, outcomes following bariatric surgery in rotator cuff repair, and long-term results of GLAD lesions in first-time anterior shoulder instability.
Congratulations to all involved!
