Casella Recognized on Tim's 'America's Best Mid-Size Companies 2024' List
Casella Waste Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CWST), a regional solid waste, recycling and resource management services company, has been named to Time’s “America’s Best Mid-Size Companies 2024” list. Casella was the only company in the waste, recycling, and resource management services industry—and the only company headquartered in Vermont— among the list of 500, according to a news release on July 16. America’s Best Mid-Size Companies 2024 were identified based on three dimensions using more than 15 different criteria. The project scope considered all
companies that operate in the U.S. and generated at least $100 million in revenue but less than $10 billion in 2022 or 2023. Read More from the Mountain Times →
Rutland City Launches its Hazard Mitigation Planning Process
Every five years, municipalities update their Local Hazard Mitigation Plans, or LHMPs. Rutland City's is due to be updated by April 2025. We do an LHMP for a few reasons: - It qualifies us for a higher rate of reimbursement for work we do after declared disasters.
- It makes us eligible for a variety of State and Federal grant programs.
- Most importantly, it helps us focus City time and investments on the hazards that are most likely to have economic and public-safety impacts.
The Rutland Regional Planning Commission will guide Rutland City through the renewal of its LHMP, thanks to a grant from Vermont Emergency Management. The City's planning team includes William Lovett, Fire Chief; Bob Protivansky, Public Works Commissioner; Tyler Richardson, Executive Administrator; Andrew Strniste, Planning & Zoning Administrator; and Eric Pulver, Vermont Department of Health. As the plan update is underway in August and September, there will be a risk assessment to identify the most concerning natural hazards. Rutland City wants to hear from its residents about which natural hazards are of most concern! Share your feedback by taking this survey →
Flood Damage Survey for Businesses
The Agency of Commerce and Community Development is requesting businesses that endured damage as a result of any of the July 2024 flooding events to complete the Department of Economic Development's Flood Damage Survey for Businesses.
This data will be used to help us advocate for future relief and recovery programs for businesses and nonprofit organizations. The goal is to understand everyone's circumstances so that we are better able to quantify the aggregate need at the community and industry levels.
In the event financial assistance becomes available, we will be in contact with those who have completed the Flood Damage Survey to share that information. Take the survey here →

We have had so much fun celebrating summer with all of our community partners! In the past two weeks, we got to make some cyanotype prints and journals with the Rutland Free Library, and solar ovens with Wallingford Rec Camp.
We just wrapped up a fantastic Junior Maker Camp! We made some gnomes out of clay, tie dyed t-shirts, made elephant toothpaste, and much more. It's hard to believe that there is only one more camp week this summer, but we can't wait to see what adventures it will bring!
