From 10 March to 11 April 2025, our greens were transformed into classrooms, alive with the energy of students keen to learn the art of bowls. At Howick BC, we’re passionate about giving back to our community and sharing the sport we love. This programme wasn’t just about ticking academic boxes — it was about showing young people how bowls can be both a challenging and rewarding pursuit. Thanks to our incredible volunteers — a dedicated group of coaches and club players — the programme ran smoothly across four days each week. Although this was a serious academic assignment, our goal was to make sure the students had plenty of fun along the way. They competed in five ends: two long, two short, and one of their choice, using both forehand and backhand deliveries. Their precision was scored meticulously: 5 points for bowls within one metre of the jack, 3 points for within two metres, and 1 point for staying within the rink boundaries. And the results? Nothing short of fantastic - 90% of students passed! We were impressed by their commitment and respectful attitude throughout. Watching them grow in skill and confidence over the five weeks was truly rewarding. ![]() ![]() ![]() Annual Award Nominations Now Open! The 2025 Bowls Auckland Awards are just around the corner, and it’s time to celebrate the people who make our sport so special.
