[St. Ann Church, Kaneohe (with the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem)]

Today we are happy to welcome the local members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem! I am proud to be a member of this group myself. It is a centuries-old international Order, approved by the Popes, whose primary duty is to support the Christians and Christian shrines in the Holy Land, the land where God’s chosen people were led and where God’s only begotten Son, Jesus, lived his earthly life. There has always been a need for outside support, which is especially acute during this time of war, when many people who live there have lost their livelihoods. It is a very tourist-dependent economy, and for the last several years, very few tourists have felt safe enough to visit. The Order of the Holy Sepulchre supports hospitals and schools in the Holy Land, as well as the work of the local diocese there, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. In a couple of weeks, all of us will be asked to participate in this support through the annual Good Friday collection for the Holy Land. Please remember these suffering brothers and sisters in the Holy Land on that day especially. Read more...

Archbishop Ryan Jimenez Sends Letter Urging Prayers for Hawaii Following Severe Storms

A Call to Prayer for the People of Hawaii

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

I invite all of you to join me in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Hawaii who are suffering from the devastating effects of severe, back-to-back storms and the worst flooding the islands have experienced in over two decades.

Thousands of residents in Oahu and Maui have endured significant loss—homes damaged, communities disrupted, and families displaced by catastrophic flooding. The situation remains critical; with the threat of further danger should an aging dam give way. Authorities have already estimated damages to reach over one billion dollars.

Hawaii holds a special place in our hearts. Many among us have family members, friends, and loved ones who live, study, or have made their home there. The bonds between our communities run deep, spanning generations and shared experiences. Read more...

Emergency Flood Assistance

Honolulu, March 22, 2026 - The Kona low system lingered with pockets of heavy showers even as it began to moved away from the islands this past Sunday. (Theodore Trimmer / Shutterstock.com)

From the Office for Social Ministry

A powerful Kona low storm system brought torrential rainfall, with 10 to 16 inches falling in a single day in some areas, triggering flash floods, landslides, and widespread damage. Community-led food distributions are stepping in to support affected residents, ensuring access to essential supplies during recovery. These efforts come as communities recover from what officials and news reports are calling the worst flooding event in more in decades.

In response to historic flooding across, Hawai’i’s Food Banks are partnering with trusted community organizations to host emergency food distributions. These community-led food distributions are specifically intended for residents impacted by recent flooding. Read more...

For more than 25 years, Catholic youth on Hawaii island have been gathering for a unique day to strengthen their faith and meet new friends from across the diocese.

Known as Big Island Youth Day, this year the event included participants from Hawaii island, Molokai and Oahu: 101 middle and high school youth, 36 adult chaperones and 14 young adult volunteers from EPIC Ministry’s Hilo chapter.

The Feb. 21 youth day took place at St. Joseph High School in Hilo and was planned by the school’s Campus Ministry team, with support and guidance from St. Joseph campus minister Chrislyn Villena; Edwina Fujimoto, coordinator of youth ministry at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kailua-Kona; Mark Rebellon, youth minister at Annunciation Church in Waimea; and Lisa Gomes, director of the diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis. Read more...

CRS Rice Bowl - Seeing Christ in the Migrant

From the Office for Social Ministry

“That is why God became flesh in Jesus, so that the clay of our humanity, shaped by the breath of his grace, might receive a new light, one capable of helping us to see ourselves, others and God in truth.” - Pope Leo XIV’s Angelus Message the Fourth Sunday in Lent 2026

During a recent Sunday of Lent, the scripture readings included the Gospel story of Jesus miraculously healing the man born blind. The words of the cured man, “I was blind, and now I see.” (repeated in the beloved hymn Amazing Grace) speak about transforming sight through the light of God’s grace. In his Sunday Angelus message, Pope Leo XIV reflected on this profound transformation. “While we were in darkness… God sent his Son as the light of the world to open the eyes of the blind and illuminate our lives.”

The Pope Leo proclaimed that Lent invites us to deepen our faith which “helps us to see things as Jesus himself sees them, with his own eyes: it is a participation in his way of seeing.” Read more...

Mary, Star of the Sea Church, Honolulu

From the Office for Social Ministry

At Mary, Star of the Sea Church on Oahu, parishioners established their Ministry for Persons with Disabilities by welcoming persons with varying gifts and abilities to celebrate the “’Ohana Mass.” Ushers who are members of the Knights of Columbus offer a warm welcome and escort them to the designated pews where they were able to better participate in the Eucharist. After Mass, the community continues fellowship together through a potluck supper where all joyfully serve each other with nourishing food and aloha. These “‘Ohana Masses” and potluck fellowship normally take place on the fourth Saturday each month, 5:30 p.m. at Mary, Star of the Sea where all are welcomed to celebrate and share their gifts as one ‘Ohana.

Saint of the Week

Annunciation of the Lord
Solemnity - March 25

Today’s celebration of the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord recalls the historical event of the Angel Gabriel appearing to the Virgin Mary, as found in Luke 1:26–38. It also celebrates the Church’s faith in the underlying reality that took place at that moment in time. It celebrates the Incarnation, making this solemnity not only a Marian solemnity, but first and foremost a Christological one. Though Christmas commemorates the birth of Christ, the Annunciation commemorates the Incarnation within the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Read more...
