community research showcase

Community Research Showcase
15 October 2020
12:00pm - 1:30pm

The Melbourne Disability Institute's Community Based Research Scheme supports the evaluation and research of innovative ideas in the broader disability community by linking community organisations to researchers or students who provide rich evaluations or data that organisations can share with the wider community, use for applications to scale their project or demonstrate the unique and valuable projects that they have developed.

We've invited five community organisations that have recently completed the program to present their projects and talk about the research partnership with the University.

Spanning the impact of sport, building social connections, setting up micro-enterprises through to improving workplace skills, you will hear about initiatives that are making a difference and research that is delivering evidence of the positive impact on peoples’ lives.

We hope you can join us for this session. Capacity is limited, so be sure to register below in advance!

The event will feature presentations from the following community-based organisations:

Kevin Heinze Garden Centre | Evaluating the benefits of therapeutic horticulture for people with autism - Kevin Heinze Grow

Maroondah City Council | Pathways for Carers: No-one can do it alone

YellowBridge | Evaluation of the Collectables Program & Micro Social Enterprises – YellowBridge

Start Foundation | Amputees and Sport - A qualitative study measuring the impact of participation in sport for amputees requiring sports prosthesis or adaptive sports equipment

Yarraville Community Centre and Laverton Community Education Centre | Support workers as mediators between learners, carers and providers in learn local disability programs.

We encourage you to share this event. If you have any questions about the Community Based Research Scheme, the next round of which is opening soon, or the showcase, please contact us at md-i@unimelb.edu.au.

Participate in the survey

The Circus Project: Health Professionals Survey
The circus project aims to create a research-based circus program for children to continue to work on their therapy goals. This project is aimed at preschool-aged children who were born extremely preterm.

Are you a health professional with recent experience (last 5 years) working with preschoolers (ages 3-5yo) with developmental delays and/or motor impairments?

If so, we invite you to participate in a survey to help inform what structure, goals and outcomes of this program would be important to you as a health professional who works with this population.

To learn more about the project and the survey, visit: https://redcap.mcri.edu.au/surveys/?s=8YWDCCATFC or please contact Free Coulston (BSci, DPT, PhD Student) at free.coulston@mcri.edu.au.
