The Business Wodonga Connection August 19th, 2022 No images? Click here Message from CEOHello Members, It’s now only thirteen days until the Business Wodonga Jobs Expo 2022. We are very excited to be in the position of fully booked out but we have established a waiting list for any businesses that missed out on the cutoff for the EOI. As always we want to be able to adapt and accommodate should any changes be needed in the lead up to this very exciting event. However, even if you are not exhibiting, please do not overlook that you can advertise your vacancies on our Jobs Victoria Digital Jobs Board. These roles can be submitted via our website https://businesswodonga.com.au/jobs-expo/submissions/ Pulling this Expo together so quickly is testament to the great community that we have, as it would not be possible to have done this without the commitment of our partners, City of Wodonga, Jobs Victoria/Qualify Training, Wodonga TAFE, Latrobe University and North East Local Learning & Employment Network. I am giving an especially big shout out to our Team Member, Shannon Dube for pulling all this event together so rapidly. From a tiny thought, we have built a mighty project through teamwork. Interest is also high from job seekers. This week along with several other members I attended Latrobe University’s “Mocktails & Mingles” which gave third year university students the opportunity to experience the feel of a networking event. I met so many great young people and they are full of optimism for their futures. The other thing that I picked up on was that most who attended wanted to remain living and working in this region. That is a great sign for our future economic prosperity to keep such a talented pool of people right here in the North East. Lastly, for those in our Members Only Footy Tipping competition, good luck with your tips in this week’s final round. The first prize of a La Maison Restaurant voucher can only go to one winner, so tip wisely! -Graham Jobs Expo Submission EOIThis Expo Is For You And The Wodonga Economic Community!Whether you are looking for more staff, considering expanding, looking for a career change, upskilling or just want to see what is in our community, this event has something for everyone. Anyone with an Australian presence (including businesses, organisations and individuals) can now register a new category of domain name, known as .au direct. These shorter simpler domain names will end in simply ‘.au’ (e.g. mybusiness.au) and will complement existing namespaces such as ‘com.au’, ‘net.au’, ‘org.au’, ‘asn.au’, ‘id.au’, ‘gov.au’ and ‘edu.au’. Existing domain name licence holders have been provided priority to register the .au direct equivalent of their domain names until 20 September 2022, after which domain names that have not been allocated will become available to the general public. ![]() With the cost of living seemingly peaking, many factors go into managing our day to day costs, including our homes, our jobs, our family and our spending habits. Additional Support![]() Six months to go until Victoria bans problematic single-use plastics from sale or supply across the state. To reduce plastic pollution, Victoria is banning problematic single-use plastics from sale or supply from 1 February 2023. Victorian businesses are encouraged to start preparing for the ban now to help ease the transition. What will be banned? The ban includes single-use plastic:
The ban proposes that conventional, degradable and compostable plastics (including bioplastic and oxo-degradable materials) will be banned. Compostable plastics can still harm wildlife if they are littered and often require processing at a specialised compost facility to break down. Visit vic.gov.au to learn more about the single-use plastics ban. ![]() Employers can access free support to advertise jobs and recruit staff with Workforce Australia. Eligible public-facing small businesses can now apply for funding for equipment or works to improve ventilation. Under the program, support is available via a rebate or grant.
Member SpotlightAllison's Corner![]() Hi all, How have you all been going with your Gem Awards? What have you learned about yourself during these 6 weeks? I have learned to just be myself, accept me for who I am. I have also made sure that I take time during the day for myself. It maybe a walk in the fresh air, but its just a moment to step away from the desk to stop. ![]() Mental Health is not a dirty word. Life has been full of ups and downs these last few years, and we are all in this together.
