Paige Smith
Clinical Research Manager – Division of Cardiology What is your professional background?
My career began after completing the nursing program at Georgia College. After earning my nursing degree, I worked on a telemetry floor at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital and later moved to the CVICU at Saint Joseph’s. While working at Saint Joseph’s, I earned my Clinical Nurse Specialist degree from Georgia State University. In 1994, I began working at Emory in electrophysiology. In 2004, I made the transition from a clinical role to a researcher at Emory. Which division do you work in, and who is your mentor?
I work as the Director of Clinical Trials for Electrophysiology in the Division of Cardiology. I have been blessed to work with a very talented group of physicians who have supported me and allowed me to function in multiple roles within our cardiology division over the last 30 years. Briefly describe your research. Why is it important?
I have predominantly worked on industry-related device research. I have witnessed significant changes in technology and how it has led to advancements in treating arrhythmias, heart failure, and stroke prevention over the years. What do you like most about Emory?
The people are what I like most about Emory; they are my work family. This also includes many of our patients that I continue to keep in touch with and consider to be lifelong friends. What is your favorite movie or TV show?
I enjoy watching Tampa Bay Lightning games! I was a hockey mom for several years with my son, Dillon, and he and I really enjoy watching the games! What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, as I am blessed to have a wonderful husband and two amazing children. We enjoy lake life together, so you will find me on my boat this summer with my family. I also am an animal lover and currently have two dachshunds and two cats. What is a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that I have not always liked my name, Paige, which is from a character in a book that was later turned into the movie "Parrish." Growing up, I was never able to find anything with my name on it, but as time has passed, I have grown to love my name. A favorite teacher of mine called me “Chapter” because she believed in me.
"What's Up" is brought to you by Emory University's Department of Medicine Office of Research.
