A drug used to help individuals lose weight will soon be available to thousands of people through the NHS. People can reduce their body weight by more than 10 per cent if they start taking semaglutide alongside living a healthy lifestyle. New guidance covering the care and treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes is now available to access thanks to NICE. Within the guideline, the national health organisation has listed the care areas that should be prioritised for improvement. The NICE guideline which covers the care and treatment for adults with type 1 diabetes has been updated. According to the national health organisation, the revised guidance describes high-quality care in priority areas for improvement. Updated NHS commissioning recommendations for blood glucose, ketone meters, testing strips and associated consumables are to be published in April. NHS England is conducting a national assessment process which aims to support access to high-quality, cost-effective products so that people with diabetes can monitor and manage their condition appropriately. Two leading diabetes consultants have detected five areas NHS Integrated Care Boards can focus on to improve care for people living with the condition.
