News from the House.... No images? Click here Karinya News - March 2022Dear Friends of KarinyaSo we missed February... finding ourselves in March.. and the Karinya Gala Dinner is on the move! Spring 2022 here we come, celebrating all of you and 25 years of Karinya House. We hope to see you at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Woden on Friday 23 September 2022! Together we can double our impact supporting women in the Canberra Region and Karinya House across 2022/2023. In the meantime, we have quite the full house, with home at Karinya being the place for 10 women and 12 children (including babies!) with 4 babies due. The Karinya Care Team are also walking alongside 31 women in the community, with 40 children and 11 babies due. Like every organisation, the roster can pose some interesting questions these days, however the Karinya team pull together and pitch in, as is the Karinya way. Times do remain challenging and this impacts on each one of us in different ways as we ponder. Take your time, go slowly along your way and always be kind, to yourself and whomever you may meet. Canberra Giving Day - 9 March 2022...This Canberra Day you can choose to walk alongside women with Karinya House, investing in their lives and their futures. #HandsAcrossCanberra @HandsUp4CBR #CanberraDay2022 As well as highlighting this opportunity to donate to support women, we are seeking a NEW corporate partner to be Karinya's Canberra Giving Day matched giving partner. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Jo. Welcome Lucy and Imogen to the Karinya TeamKarinya has been fortunate to welcome a few new members to the Karinya Team. We hope to introduce you to them over the coming months. This edition, we are welcoming Lucy Roberts who has joined the Karinya Care team as a caseworker and Imogen Boden-Brown who joins the team as a support worker. We are so pleased to have Lucy and Imogen as part of the Karinya team! An opportunity to Join the Karinya TeamRecognising the need to ensure the Karinya House practice framework is culturally appropriate and draws on traditional wisdoms and ways of knowing, Karinya House has been successful in securing a grant from Calleo Indigenous Community Foundation to deepen the skills and experience of the Karinya House Care Team. Based on the successful Health Professional model at Karinya House, the successful applicant would form part of an individual’s ‘care team’ to support women who are pregnant or parenting, and who identify as Indigenous, or whose children are Indigenous. Walking with Nations ConnectKarinya House is so grateful to be walking with Nations Connect to develop our first Reconciliation Action Plan. After developing our reconciliation statement in 2015, it has taken us a while to find the necessary time and space to reflect and develop this significant part of our governance and practice framework. We thank Jacob Keed, Kathryn Williams and Kori Keed who are taking the time to share learnings with us and to help us on this first part of our reconciliation journey. As an aside, we have found out that Jacob has another very important talent, sharing humour and he is part of the line up for the upcoming Koori Comedy Showcase. You can read more about this event at the link below. The Karinya House Endowment FundThe Karinya Committee is pleased to launch the Karinya House Endowment Fund. Whilst recognising the importance of donor, corporate and community support during each financial year, to support the delivery of services to women, the Committee is also focused on financial sustainability in the long term. Snippets....Karinya House has been working with two of our Friends, Shelley Thompson (Experience 360) and Chris Nightingale (Ponda Consulting) to chart the journey experienced by the women we walk alongside. The aim of the work is firstly to try to understand the Karinya House Client Journey more clearly, and to start to think about possible tools for measuring outcomes, at both an individual and service level. Shelley and Chris have been providing this work on a pro-bono basis to date, involving extensive time on both their part and ours. Their time has been completely gifted to Karinya and we are immensely grateful for the time and wisdom shared by Shelley and Chris. The work undertaken to date has included workshops with members of the Karinya Care Team, the Karinya House Executive Team, and most importantly discussions with current and previous clients. The discussions with women were held by Shelley on a one-to-one basis. As a result of this work, we hope to be able to share with you soon, a snapshot of some key impact statements discovered through this work. What we have seen to date is an incredible reflection on the uniqueness of Karinya House, and really captures the Karinya core of ethos of care, compassion, time, space and relationships, which was also strongly echoed from the women Shelley spoke to and is critical to consider when we are thinking about models of care/service and outcomes. #humansofkarinya #ourvillage #supportingwomen #walkingalongside 💜🌸 We give thanks ....To every member of the Karinya Team - our volunteer Committee members, our general volunteers and the Karinya staff team.
