Brookes students took part in the annual Victoria Santa Parade last Saturday. Dear Brookes Westshore Families and Friends, This week has been a testament to the vibrant spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship within our school community! Congratulations to our Grade 5 boys’ basketball team for their first experience of representing Brookes in the Future Stars tournament last weekend. And congratulations to our senior boys’ basketball team for winning their first league game on Tuesday, defeating their opponent 71-32! This week, we also had our School House Volleyball Cup! Witnessing students from all houses showcase their skills on the volleyball court was truly inspiring, creating an atmosphere filled with cheers, encouragement, and unwavering school pride. A big thank you to the championship organizer, Mr. B and the house captains, and our stellar volleyball coach, Mr. T! Congratulations to the Lynx house for winning the Junior House Championship and the Orca house for winning the Senior House Championship! These two teams have earned the opportunity to challenge the staff on Tuesday, December 12, at 3:30 pm. The junior Lynx team will play first, followed by the senior Orca team. We look forward to an unforgettable display of athleticism and unity! As we applaud our athletes for their victories, let’s also acknowledge the triumphs of kindness and service that unite us as a school community. Thanks to everyone who contributed so generously to our toy drive, food drive, and blanket drive, organized by our MYP5 and DP1 students. The toys will go to the CFAX Toy Drive, the food will go to the Goldstream Food Bank, and the blankets will go to Children’s Hospice. It is heartwarming to see our students trying to help bring some holiday cheer for people who are less fortunate and to make a positive impact beyond the classroom. Term 1 learning updates are issued today. All parents and guardians are encouraged to download a copy from ManageBac for your own files. We also encourage parents and guardians to take time to review your child(ren)’s progress and celebrate their achievements thus far. A reminder that next week is the last week of ASA and the last day of school before winter break is December 15th (early dismissal at 12:30). With kind regards, Dr. Rui Li Principal You can watch CHEK News's coverage of the Santa Parade here (we are at about 29 minutes). Thanks to everyone who took part! MYP Assessment and Reporting Our MYP Coordinator, Ms. Moroz, has recorded the short video below to support your understanding of MYP assessment, and to guide you through the latest learning updates. Fun Friday Fun Friday had a festive feel today as students decorated the school Christmas Tree in the dining hall. At the same time, some MYP 5 students handed out hot chocolate (and whipped cream!), while the gym was abuzz with remote control car racing. A great way to end the week! House Volleyball Championship The House Volleyball Championship took place this week with students representing the four school houses competing for house points and the right to challenge the teachers. We had a great two days of volleyball with the Junior House Championship kicking things off on Wednesday at lunch were the Lynx team prevailed over the Eagle team in the final. On Thursday the Sr. House Championship took place. In the first game Wolf took down Lynx in a close match to advance to the finals. Next, Orca managed to overcome a resilient Eagle team. Our third-place game had Lynx win a hard-fought battle against the Eagle team. In the Championship game Orca squared off against Wolf, it what was a battle of two titans. Some serious volleyball skills were on display in the final match as Orca eventually prevailed in extra points 27-25! Tuesday, December 12th starting at 3:30pm, the Jr. Lynx team and the Senior Orca team will face off against the supremely confident and moderately competent Brookes Westshore staff team!
