Profile: IDCRC Mentee Zanthia Wiley, MD

​The IDCRC Mentorship Program is designed to offer mentoring and development of junior investigators and fellows in clinical and translational infectious diseases research. Dr. Zanthia Wiley’s research interests include antimicrobial stewardship, penicillin allergies, and adaptive COVID-19 treatment trials. She is also interested in health care disparities in infectious diseases, particularly COVID-19.

First participant enrolled in Gritstone second generation COVID-19 vaccine study

Published March 25, 2021

An early phase clinical trial is being conducted through the NIAID-supported Infectious Diseases Clinical Research Consortium (IDCRC) to assess the safety and tolerability of different doses of two-part investigational COVID-19 vaccine regimens that include bits of other SARS-CoV-2 proteins in addition to the spike.

Investigational AstraZeneca vaccine prevents COVID-19

Results from a large clinical trial in the United States and South America indicate that AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, AZD1222, is well-tolerated and protects against symptomatic COVID-19 disease, including severe disease or hospitalization.

Statement from NIH and BARDA on the FDA Emergency Use Authorization of the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine

Published February 27, 2021

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to the Janssen Pharmaceuticals Companies of Johnson & Johnson for its single-shot COVID-19 vaccine, called Ad.26.COV2S or JNJ-78436725.

Conducting Sexually Transmitted Infection Research in Women of Reproductive Age: An Interdisciplinary Discussion of Experience, Strategies & Policies to Advance the Field

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Clinical Trials Group presents this 2021 programmatic meeting on STI research in women of reproductive age, especially pregnant and lactating women. IDCRC encourages those interested to attend. This event is organized by Jeanne Marrazzo, and features Kathy Neuzil and Flor Munoz, who will address issues of vaccine research, particularly in pregnancy, and Annie Lyerly from the IDCRC EAB. Contact jmarrazzo@uabmc.edu with questions.
