I will give you an overview of our philosophy at Brookes Westshore, how the grade 4 and 5 curriculum leads into the IB Middle Years Programme, and answer any questions you might have for me. Please click here to RSVP - so we know how much coffee to order! University Guidance – A Parent Information Session on October 11th at 1630 in the Dining Hall – students are also welcome to attend with their parents The DP2 (Grade 12) students are busy preparing their university applications and I started this process with them last year. Almost all are in a position of selecting universities and have initiated the application process. I meet with the entire class on a regular basis to ensure they complete all the required tasks and I also meet with them individually as required. I’m looking forward to meeting with parents of Grade 11 and 12 students on Tuesday October 11th at 1630 in the dining hall where I will outline to process for parents. Please RSVP here so we have an idea of numbers. The class development may be changed depending on the number of students who wish to participate, and the target grade may be changed. Submit Your Favourite Recipe! This year, our Brookes network of schools will work together to develop a global recipe book containing family favorites from around the world. With help from you, we hope to bring everyone together through a love of food and a celebration of different cultures. One of the guiding pillars of Brookes Education Group is Connectivity. The global recipe book - filled with recipes from around the world - will be digitally shared with all Brookes families later this year. Please send us one of your favourite recipes. Send to: recipes@brookes.org. Students are fortunate here at Brookes to have access to the beautiful grounds at Royal Roads University. Recently, MYP4 Science visited the flower garden and observed and studied a variety of flowers in relation to asexual and sexual reproduction (Biology). Last weekend saw the dorm students playing volleyball and taking part in a badminton tournament in the school gym. The evenings and weekends are full of opportunities for our dorm students to try out new skills, learn new things, and relax together as they come together as a community. Upcoming dorm activities for the weekend of October 7th to 10th
Sr. Boys Volleyball Practice session The Senior Boys Volleyball made a bold statement this past Wednesday at St. Andrews School. The boys played Parkland school (AAA) and beat them in two straight sets 25-10 and 25-11. The boys took that momentum and rolled it into their next game against St. Andrews (A) beating them 25-10, 25-17. The boys played with grit and determination representing Brookes with pride. Our Senior Boys team has a strong possibility of making it to Provincials this year with their years of experience and work ethic. The hard work in practices and games continues into next week when the boys will be heading to Esquimalt High School to play their team as well as Spectrum High School. Bring your pride and loudest voice to cheer the boys on! GO GRYPHONS! The senior Girls' Volleyball team had another successful week of practices and matches. Go Gryphons! Cross Country with Ms. Sask Updates on the middle school cross country Gryphons for the last week of competition:
Well done to each athlete - there were many successes and lots of fun had this season! Photo showing the Brookes team ready to go Rowing Brooke Westshore's rowing has been a huge success. Students have been loving it so much so that they would like to start a yearlong rowing academy at Brookes Westshore School. If you are a Brooke's student and have been thinking about joining rowing and are interested in being part of the academy, please let Ms. Aija know. We currently have 9 students on the team but would like to see the team grow. Brooke Westshore rowing team needs you. More information to come about our rowing programme next week. Super Science How are recipes like science experiments? The Super Science ASA explored that question this week as we made cloud dough. We experimented with ingredients and ratios, drawing conclusions on which combinations yielded a dough with an ideal texture and consistency. Turns out that flour mixed with baby oil and/or body lotion was our favourite! The grade 4 and 5 class having fun in the gym!
