Happy New Year! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our researchers for a successful 2024 and your ongoing commitment to advancing health and impacting diseases via discovery, clinical, health outcomes and health services research.

We are proud to share the following accomplishments for DOM's research over the last year.

  • We continued our strong research funding with $172.5 million in total research awards.
  • The VA received $5.5 million in funding with 23 funded PIs.
  • Our investigators' hard work is reflected in 711 grant proposals submitted in FY24, which is a 12.5% increase from 623 proposals in 2023, showing our continued research growth.
  • Our impact was evident in the 1,189 unique. publications from 435 contributing faculty

DOM Grant & Funding Spotlight:

Robin Klein, MD, and Jada Bussey-Jones, MD (General Internal Medicine), Reena Hemrajni, MD (Hospital Medicine)

These faculty members received a National Board of Medical Examiners Innovators Grant for a project titled "Assessing the Assessors: Development and Implementation of a Faculty Assessment Dashboard to enable Valid and Equitable Assessment." Dr. Klein shared more with us (below) on the project and what they hope to achieve.

"The project focuses on evaluating how faculty assess learner performance in clinical rotations. Assessment is an important part of teaching. While faculty are evaluated and receive feedback on their teaching skills, we do not often provide that same level of understanding when it comes to assessment skills. This is important as increasing evidence shows gender and racial disparities in faculty assessments of learners suggesting bias. In this project we will create a dashboard to monitor faculty assessment practices. With this dashboard faculty can see how they rate learners in various domains and the feedback they provide in assessments and how these compare to their peers and what is expected of them by the training program. This will also enable us to identify individual patterns in assessment that may indicate bias."
