Message from the Co-Lead, HDR Student Transition

Along with being Manager, Candidature and Examinations, I am also working with Professor Sally Plush from UniSA on all things related to the transition of current PhD, MPhil and MClinSc students to Adelaide University.  We are keen to ensure that current students move to the new University smoothly

and do not encounter any disadvantages when there are differences between University of Adelaide and Adelaide University services. Today and in future newsletters I hope to outline relevant decisions and information that will be important to your transition experience.

Insurance

All current insurance arrangements for travel and Study Away will continue uninterrupted during the transition to Adelaide University.

Research Integrity

As part of the transition to Adelaide University the Research Services Workstream within the Research and Research Training Domain has established an interim Research Service Function for Research Integrity, which will provide management of assessments and investigations of potential research integrity issues for Adelaide University. During 2025 please continue to access your Foundation University Research Integrity support pages.

Location

There will be minimal change in location of researchers leading up to and including during 2026. We are working to confirm building access during the transition period and once we have this confirmed, we will let you know.

Study plan and transition Summary

We are anticipating that we will be communicating directly with each graduate research student later in the year, with the aim of starting in the fourth quarter of the year with a personalised transition summary, and a study plan for those students with coursework in their research program.

Students enrolled in MPhil or MClinSc with a coursework component

You are strongly encouraged to speak with your supervisors and/or PGC regarding your plans for completion of the required coursework for your program and if possible, take steps to complete your coursework in 2025.  While there should still be appropriate coursework available from 2026 onwards the course content or availability may change.

If you have any questions or concerns about the transition process, please get in touch.

Regards,

Diana Reed | Manager, Candidature and Examination

Adelaide Graduate Research School

Division of Research and Innovation

Tip of the Month

While we cannot promise how long an examination will take as we are reliant on external examiners who have differing priorities, we recommend that those students who would prefer to complete and graduate with a University of Adelaide degree to submit by 15 August 2025, for the best chance for this to occur.  Students are encouraged to discuss their preference with their supervisors, so that they are aware and can try to ensure that nominated examiners can complete the examination in a timely manner.  Supervisors and PGCs should only approve a thesis for submission if it is complete and meets the program rules and standards of the University of Adelaide.

Students whose examinations are not complete in 2025 will be transferred to Adelaide University for completion, and will receive a parchment as per the FAQ available: https://ask.adelaideuni.edu.au/app/answers/detail/a_id/4271/
