Award-Winning Biotech Program Begins Another Recruitment

Recruitment for the Navy Yard Skills Initiative's fourth life sciences cohort runs May 21- June 4. The Biomedical Technician Training Program prepares graduates with the workplace and technical skills to be successful in the life science industry. Through this Program, graduates will be prepared to connect to Research Technician or Aseptic Manufacturing Technician roles where they will support the development and/or production of therapies to treat diseases. Upon successful completion of the program, select candidates will have the opportunity to interview for open roles starting at $21/hr with Integral Molecular or Iovance Biotherapeutics, Inc.

The Navy Yard Autonomous Shuttle Service Begins, Take the Rider Survey

The region’s first autonomous vehicle (AV) shuttle has officially arrived at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The arrival of the electric, zero-emissions shuttle comes after much planning, testing, and coordination between public and private organizations. The AV shuttle is another example of the Navy Yard’s commitment to long-term sustainability and resiliency by helping reduce the use of single-occupancy vehicles, lessen congestion, and decrease carbon emissions on a campus home to 150 businesses and 15,000 employees.

International Business Leaders Visit Navy Yard

A group of trade and investment representatives from more than 20 different countries wrapped up a statewide tour across Pennsylvania with a visit to the Navy Yard on March 22.

The statewide tour was done in a partnership with The Philadelphia Department of Commerce and Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development’s Office of International Business Development (OIBD) to help facilitate investment and attract foreign businesses in projects across the region.

The Philadelphia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers honored Navy Yard employee Monica Trudeau for her contributions to the civil engineering profession in the Philadelphia area. During an awards ceremony held May 16, Trudeau was the recipient of its Civil Engineering Manager of the Year Award for 2024.

WWII Vet Receives French Legion of Honor Award

A local veteran received recognition for his service during World War II in an award ceremony held at the Chapel of Four Chaplains at the Navy Yard on March 18. Berry, who is now 100 years old, served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II – most notably during the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp – added this award to his long list of awards and recognition.

Battleship New Jersey News

The historic Battleship New Jersey is temporarily left its home on the Camden Waterfront in March and made its way to the Navy Yard for maintenance. This is a homecoming of sorts for the Battleship New Jersey as its construction began at the Navy Yard in the late 1930s and commissioned for service in World War II May 23, 1943.
