Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to Term 3. We trust that everyone had a wonderful holiday and are now ready to continue embracing the ongoing opportunities at Kennedy. Term 3 promises to be an exciting term with many major events on our calendar. As we start a new semester, I would like to reinforce the mission and values of Kennedy that maximize the learning experience at the College.

Kennedy Baptist College endeavours to the very best of its abilities to provide educational opportunities of excellence in a Christian context. In doing so the needs for lifelong learning are also addressed. All staff at Kennedy are committed to this mission through our Christian ethos and the values of Faith, Integrity, Boldness, Growth, and Service.

Winter COVID Infections

As the new round of winter COVID infections increases, we will keep all families informed about any changes to mandated strategies. However, in the meantime, we encourage all College community members to follow the current government directions. Close contacts must wear masks and test as directed.

Staff Changes

There have been a number of staffing changes for Term 3. We welcome back a number of staff from extended leave: Mr Rijk Batley, Mrs Laura DeGois, Mrs Janet Hair, Mrs Alison Hanham, Mrs Ronnie Hennighan, Ms Jessica Kennedy, and Mr Ian Wilmot.

Welcome also to our new Director of Students, Mrs Christine Crump. Christine is an experienced educational leader who joins the Executive Leadership Team to focus on the day-to-day pastoral care of students.

Awards Assembly

It was a pleasure to celebrate Year 10 -12 achievements at the Awards Assembly yesterday. The presentation of Certificates of Excellence and Achievement promotes and highlights the exceptional standards being achieved by our students. Congratulations to the recipients of these significant awards. We look forward to honouring our Year 7-9 students at their assembly in Week 3. Click here for more photos.

We look forward to sharing more opportunities during Term 3 as we journey together.

Mr Mark Ashby

Chaplain Chats

Hi all, I would like to add my welcome to Term 3. I am not sure about you, but the school holidays create space for a time where we can set our focus on important things. Setting goals and striving to achieve them helps us gain a vision for growth.

This term I want to set a goal of growing our Kennedy community in prayer. I know for many of us prayer is not a big part of life, but in our staff gathering on the first day of term, we were encouraged to make prayer a bigger part of our daily journey. In the Bible, Matthew chapter 7, verses 7 to 11 talks about prayer, and through these amazing words, Jesus explains that our Father in heaven loves to answer our prayers and give us that which we seek.

Things in life are hard at times, there are broken hearts and wounded souls everywhere, and praying is a real and important response to all that brokenness. However, this part of the Bible is not just about us praying, it’s also about the one that actually hears those prayers. To quote verse 11 of Matthew chapter 7, ‘your Father in heaven will give good things to those that keep on asking”.

To put this into action, this term we invite our community to come and pray together. Wednesdays are known at Kennedy as KPOW, Kennedy Prays On Wednesdays!

All parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and extended family of any description, are invited to come and pray with us on Wednesdays at 2:30pm for 30min, prior to school pick up in the Staff Lounge, located near the Uniform Shop!

To add to this invite, if there is any personal challenge or need that we can pray for, we want to be on the journey of life with you, and we will pray with you. You can Direqt message me any prayer needs that you have with very minimal detail, a simple “Please pray for us” is actually all we need. My goal for this term is that we see a KPOW with 20 people gathering to pray! I look forward to seeing you there.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability

The nationally consistent approach to data collection (NCCD) provides all Australian schools, education authorities and the community with a clear picture of the number of students with disability in schools and the adjustments they are provided to enable them to participate in education on the same basis as other students.

The Australian Education Regulation 2013 (the Regulation) requires the operators of government and non-government schools (approved authorities) to provide information to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training (the department) for the purposes of the NCCD. The information will not identify individual students; no information that could reasonably enable the Department to identify individual students will be provided by approved authorities to the Department.

Further information regarding the NCCD can be found in SEQTA under Documents – Policies - NCCD Fact sheet for Parents & Guardians.
